Hey guys i have to write an essay for U.S. History and just wondering about your thoughts on how imperialism fits america in the 20th century? +karma for good answers
its the shit, i like killing those squinty eye'd asians, i like slaughtering those damn carribean reefer cheafers, and i like to beat the shit out of them damn native americano's and steal their land. did somebody not go to class?
yo im your man for U.S history bro haha, imperialism really began to flourish with Teddy Roosevelt's "big stick" policy. basically he wanted the U.S to become the world police, going in and helping other nations win wars etc. the early 20th century is when we got guam, puerto rico, and the other small territories U.S has control over. lemme know if this isnt too good a start, cuz i prolly have a essay somewhere about it from my AP U.S history class
imperialism started with the big debate over the philippines and whether or not the us should intervene to reap the benefits of the asian market or if we should stay back and not exploit another nation
it was a huge debate and the imperialists eventually won, getting the treaty signed. imperialists argued that it was god's mission for them to go in and help the filipino people because they weren't capable of self-government and that they were savages which goes along with the idea of the white man's burden and kipling's poem. the anti-imperialists claimed that it would be against our core values to exploit a nation and that it was in direct violation of the constitution. we wanted to go "help" them start a government yet we didn't trust them enough to grant them citizenship so it turned into a hypocritical shitstorm
