unless they lower the legal age to 17 then it doesnt make that much sense to graduate everyone early. theres only so much you can do on your own if you arent able to sign leases and stuff like that

I don't understand how they even got to this point. What the hell could they possibly be spending the money on? Why don't utilities companies give schools a break in exchange for lower taxes, why can't companies donate some school supplies, get some local sponsors for sports teams, run more efficient bus routes? I mean how hard can it be? Cutting a whole year of school is just retarded.

ns is so stupid, they do this in other counties, im assuming its a way to give students time between highscool and college to actually figure out wat they want to do with their lives instead of dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars on a wasted education

Where are you going with this? Either you're smarter than the average bear or had a shitty teacher. AP and IB classes are worthwhile and get you ready for aggressive courses at university.

Having senior year be optional for those who have enough credits makes perfect sense. At my school, there were a couple kids who graduated a whole year early because they had the credits, and then probably a couple more (myself included) who graduated a semester early. What did I do with that semester off? I moved to Vermont and worked on the ski patrol, which meant I got to ski every day. If you've completed all your credits, I see absolutely no problem with this. Like someone else said, in plenty of other countries kids take a year off between high school and college. More Americans should try it out too.

If the United States economy keeps going in the shitter, you can probably expect a lot of states to start something like this, or sending kids in half days, or giving fridays off or something.

so much of school isnt about the actual information you learned. its about learning how to interact and socialize and you get a lot of that senior year. I know a lot of times you look back and wish you could play sports, ski every week, not pay bills, and not worry about finding a job. There were a lot of things about high school I know we all wish we could have back.

I imagine a lot of those kids will go on a mission or am I just stereotyping?

I definately miss the lack of real work (I'm in college now), but I worked a lot in high school, and I had to pay every time I went to the mountain, so that's why I wish I  could have started college earlier so I could either graduate earlier and get a real job to cover bills, or take less credits so I could ski more.

I wish this was around like 5 years ago when I graduated HS... i could have spent an entire year shredding mad pow, and gotten residency to go to a Utah school instead of dealing with the fucked up california universities system...

In the article, it says that many seniors blow off senior year......well if they cut senior year, then kids will start to blow off junior year......wtf utah?

Not really. You have to work hard all three years if that's all you have. I graduated in three years from my high school in VT (shot stint in Utah) and it was hard work and I took a class at UVM over the summer to meet requirements.

And it's optional, although graduating in three years has always been an option so I thought.

Graduating in three years has always been an option if you work hard and take enough credits....What the article is saying is that Utah wants to just get rid of senior year and allow everyone to graduate at the end of Junior year, unless they want to stay in school for an extra year.......Let's be honest, not many kids will want this if all of their friends graduate a year early, so my point was if kids know they can graduate without working hard junior year, then they will slack off junior year /rant lol
