I was fortunate enough to travel to Mammoth this past Thursday night to ski Friday and Saturday on a pair of Surface New Life's brand new outta the plastic. Mounted them at 2cm back from boot center and I don't regret it at all. Personal :: Background Info

This was my first experience on a pair of rockered skis and naturally I was a sceptic. Ever since the idea was launched years back I was doubtful that they would ever work in everyday conditions. Naturally I feared how rockered skis would manage on hard pack. To my pleasent suprise, the New Lifes held an edge that inspired a lot of confidence.
The following video was taken on a run called WallStreet -- which is a "more difficult" run at Mammoth labeled as a black/blue diamond. It was well groomed and relatively uncrowded. On this particular run my GPS posted the reading of 46mph. Forgive the shaky video, I was holding my iPhone in one hand as I tried to pay attention to it and the slope at the same time.
In the end I am confident in saying that these skis far exceeded my expectations! Weight was not an issue and was hardly noticeable. Eventhough I mounted at almost center, I felt that due to the skis sidecut and shape I needed to mount them in more of a freestyle position.
Riding around the entire mountain on a pair of New Lifes sparks a lot of conversation with people on the lift and in the lodge, etc. If you are the type of skier who likes to have a pair of skis that are unique and get a lot of attention -- look no further!
Hope you enjoy the review.
