Actually, they do reward grabs.  Colas had an awesome bottom air in quals: loop with safety grab.  He was in first, then on his final run missed the grab and was backseat on the landing, so ended up 6th.  The pencil spins may not be the most stylish, but the DD is high, and style isn't everything, especially in moguls.  Just the way it is.

everyone who loves america should raise my karma because i said the judging was bad in the alexandra bilodeau thread and all the fucking canadiand carma raped me. i was rated a 7 and now im a 3.3 so hook it up. and yes, the judging was retarded. the frenchie didnt deserve 6th

I don't think we will ever see slopestyle in the form we know it in olympics. any event where competitors GRIND objects (rails and boxes) will probably never happen. Way too new age and counter culture for 'lympics

i'm pretty sure he was talking about the aerials in moguls, and the other kid said the focus is more on the turns - (which is true, being the name of the event is 'moguls' not 'aerials')

the thing about the way they judge the airs is, it's not based on difficulty of the trick its based on execution. So one dude could throw an almost perfect d-spin 7 but was out a little bit on the landing, and another dude could throw a penciled out 3 but everything about his form, execution, and landing is perfect. the 3 will get a higher score.

and this is why we don't want halfpipe skiing in the olympics, because it will be fucking gay.

I think a few people on here need to do a bit of history on where their sport originated from. I know its not what it used to be but JP Auclair, JF Cusson, Mike Douglas, Tanner Hall were mogul skiers and then evolved from that what we see today.

Yeah the tricks look a bit rubbish but its about the moguls... I personally don't think we need slopestyle and pipe in the olympics, we have so many big events out there that get loads of publicity...

 I also think snowboarding pipe shouldn't be in the olympics... No more than skating should be in the summer olympics...

I don't really see how aerials are going to carry on though, is there any young interest in it?? I think acroski should come back... I'd take that up!!

One last thing... Anyone else think the canada coach sweats look like they're made by armada? (same font)...

Its wierd...i kinda feel that the winter olympics is just full of super niche odd ass sports...curling, speed skating, luge, bobsled?  oh and my effin' favorite...FIGURE SKATING

Just to get back to the thread subject. The judging (which CAN be pretty subjective to say the least) was actually pretty good as far as putting the podium in the right order. Unfortunately didn't get to see P.A.'s run. He's a ripper. Back dbl full might not be super steezy but it's better than Dspin and backflip which were the same airs pulled out in Torino. Gotta remember tho air only 25% (officially).

you're partially right. the judges do score the airs based on execution but after the fact there is a multiplier put in for degree of difficulty. per judge, each air is scored out of 2.5 based on the execution of the jump
