if you were running a skiing related company, and your athlete got voted into joss but couldn't afford the plane ticket, would you pay the measly $1500?

Isn't that the idea though? The better skiers get more votes? If i had never seen LJ in a video or heard of him before, i would be as equally impressed with his video and give it a 10. But like you said, people like LJ are the only ones with those videos in the contest, hence, why he will probably be picked. I don't really see it as being a popularity contest.

whats really lacking in joss, is the no filmer competition aspect. regardless of "who gets along with who", filmers/editors are hardly recognized for their talent. joss is such an amazing opportunity that i dont believe it should be based on if your friend is the skier that wins and knows you. i guess in this case, its networking vs. skill

I agree that the filmers are not recognized for their talent and deserve gratification. However the competition would not and cannot exist with what the filmers produce. The winning skier is freeloading off of the edit. Connor, you know as well as I do, if not better, how the same footage can look different depending on how it is displayed. However you can't reasonably say that none of the Joss filmers/editors don't deserve to be there. I do agree that networking is the main factor for what chooses the filmer but I do not think it is within the athletes best interest to bring someone they don't have any interactions with.

Curveball, not all "deserving" filmers are available for joss anyway. The time that Joss is is during peak parkshoot season and many filmers have prior obligations. The movie comes before the joss edit.

If there was an actual film contest wouldn't it just be everyone filming everyone and you would just be watching the same tricks on repeat. Kind of hard to judge when you are sick of seeing the same trick even if it was a different camera angle.
