A lot of people on this site think Shaun White is a tool, I agree with them, and this story my buddy told me pretty much confirms it.

My friend is a tram operator at my local mountain, and Shaun White is scheduled to do a couple of interviews up there during the Olympics. Well the other day was his first interview day, and when he arrived at the tram station at the bottom, after getting his ticket scanned, he requested a private tram for him and his friends. Keep in mind, the tram at my home mountain holds 100 people. So he potentially wanted 100 people to wait so that he wouldn't have to be stuck on a tram with them. And since my home mountain is run by a bunch of pushovers, he got what he wanted. One last thing, when my friend to spark up conversation with him, Shaun blatantly ignored him. Dbag status achieved.

If I was Shaun White, I wouldn't want to be stuck on a tram with 100 other people either. I mean, everywhere this kid goes, he gets mobbed by picture takers, autograph seekers, and people who want to ask him some asinine question. There's not a single skier who's even close to his popularity. He's pretty much movie star status. Could you imagine what it would be like if Brad Pitt tried getting on a tram with the general public. Besides, he's getting ready for the biggest snowboarding event in the world. I'm sure the last thing he wants, is a bunch of 12 year olds humping his legs for 15 minutes.

Brad Pitt did something even more with the public when he was shooting a movie in my city last year. He went to a local donut shop on the busiest road in my neighborhood. Did he give a fuck that people were staring and asking questions? No. So why does Shaun White have to be such a tool?

One more side note, Shaun was with another female Oakley team rider, Gretian something, and she had no problem whatsoever with taking a tram with the public. She actually even went up early to meet the public and sign autographs.

Did you read the story? Shaun blatantly ignored my friend when he tried to talk to him, and the other oakley rider he was with had no problem taking the gondola with the public. It's just Shaun White thinking he is a bigger deal than he is.

If you want to see how a public figure should handle themselves with their fans look up some of the stuff Wanderlei Silva does for his fans. Before every fight of his Sherdog's forums always make this gigantic poster with a bunch of "signatures" (people take their forums name and photoshop it with weird ways) and send it to him. It never fails when he gets it he takes pictures with it, thanks everyone for their support, and proceeds to have it with him at the fight usually too. Also, you meet him randomly in the airport and ask to take a pic with him he will let you pretend you are punching him in the face.

That is how professional athletes SHOULD treat their fans. Shaun White is just an emo douche that thinks "I can't have friends cause if they beat me that ends our friendship". I hope you die alone Shaun.

unrealated but i saw ghostface on the 4 train last summer.

shaun whites a prick. is it that difficult to ride up the tram with other people. its not like it threatens his safety or anything. i dont think anyone is trying to assassinate him in a tram.

sure but i mean.. if that's a "problem" you have a good fucking life. god forbid he has to talk to some people for a tram ride (and i think its worth mentioning that part of the job he gets paid millions for is to stoke people up and be a good face for the company). regardless do you really think its reasonable or fair for 100 people to have to wait even longer than normal, for something they paid for, just because he's a prima donna?

Im not agreeing with the guy, or disagreeing. But the fact that you cant remember the other riders name kinda proves his point. Shaun White has reached star status, and If I were in his shadows that day I would want to do something that he isnt so I would become more popular

Shaun White is a HUGE deal. All you guys who still don't want to accept that he fucking dominates snowboarding are just kidding yourselves.

He doesn't have to talk to your friend. Imagine how many people try and talk to him every single day about the same shit over and over again. I guarantee everyone in this thread, including myself and you, the OP, have ignored someone that was trying to talk to you.

He deserves his own tram, honestly it shouldn't even be a question that he gets his own during a time like right now. I don't think it would've been safe for him to go up with 100 other people. I would honestly be scared if I were him.

And that Brad Pitt anology is fucking ridiculous. Yeah, he went into a donut shop with probably the same amount of security as the President. Plus, he could've just walked out of the donut shop if shit got too wild. Shaun wouldn't have been able to just jump out of the tram if something happened or it got too out of hand.

I'm not trying to attack the OP in this post.. I'm just really fucking sick of everyone shitting on Shaun White just because he's incredible at what he does.

everyone hate him because he makes money, and uses his money to get better and make more money.

Most pros dont make enough to last them for their lives out of the spot light, and if he has found a way to do so, that no reason to hate him. If wallish was offered million dollar deals would you hate him for being good and getting paid even if he "sold out." (its not really selling out if you just have bigger paying sponsors) Hate him cause he does douchy things like sets off all the fire extinguishers in a hotel or hold up 100 people who want to take a tram, but not because he has found a way to retire after he has to stop being a pro snowboarder

A little off topic but I was at the Nuggets game recently sitting about 15 rows up. On the floor was John Elway, I was pretty stoked and hoped I would get a chance to shake his hand. Then I sat there the whole game and watched as he was constantly bothered by every fucking person that walked by, some times during the game.

I can see where these people are coming from, they are just people leave them alone.
