How to wax a rail???

I was surprised to look on the searchbar and find there aren't any threads over this. How do you wax an urban rail? What kind of wax? I've heard that candle wax works is that true? And do you have to heat the rail?

yeah heat the rail up. You HAVE to heat it. you gotta get a torch. Or a hairdryer will work. Get crisco for waxing. even in cold temperatures it stays greasy. Slather that shit everywhere. Also, spraypaint stencil the name of your crew everywhere. Especially on the back of the giant booter you build onto the rail. Never slide wood or concrete. Aluminum works the best. Good Luck.

because it was a stupid question. think about it...if you're sliding down a rail covered with something that's mold-able and friction-y, don't you think you're going to a) slide slowly and b) catch a fucking edge?

and who waxes rails?

... why would you wax a rail?

You might wax a ledge or buff a rail(you don't really need to usually)

but if you're waxing a ledge go buy some skateboard wax and rub it on.

i have a buddy who rides bmx and he waxes his rails. and as for skiing, i don't see how it could hurt, but it probably doesn't matter too much in the big picture. i might try it next time i go out and do urban. My friend just uses frozen candle wax and rubs it on, i'd probably try the same thing if i ever did it.

no, they don't. having wax on the bottom of your skis slows you down. having wax IN your bases (ie if you scrape and brush) makes you fast.

I work for park and pipe and you definitely dont wax rails- They are metal people- once the fresh paint wears off it should be good to go- for urban its just fuck it and huck it

I always wax urban just cus i've had bad experiences with catching on sticky spots. I just use normal skate wax or my dad is a dental technician and has these sheets of pink wax that works great... i just rub it on that thing and hope for the best. hope this helps though

Alright, here is the deal. If the rail is extremely rusted you may want to take some sand paper heavy grit to take off paint chips or excess rust. Then really any wax works, even hard ski wax works well. However, like most people have stated you usually don't wax every rail you do, however, sometimes there are some really shitty surfaces.

Well, everyone is saying don't wax rails, but at my park, if the rails don't have wax, sliding is super slow, and you make a horrible grinding noise, like your bases are getting trashed. I personally bring a small brick of skate wax with me so I can wax any sticky rails I come across.

I use candle wax on my metal rail.
Makes it slide a bit nicer since it's rather beat up.
Not necessary, but helps (mostly mentally)

what i use is i poop in the snow then wait till its sorta cold then take your hands making balls of poop, then sliding them up and down the rail until it gets nice an slippery, you also might want to lick it to test if its slippery enough.

When I prep my rails in the fall I usually sand/grind the rust off, give them a spray paint job, and rub candle wax on them, but I buff it in with a rag until it's shiny. That shit slides like it's no ones job. As for an urban maybe just a quick sand (depending on condition of the rail, you may not have to) and candle wax. You don't really need to wax at all, but it helps for sure. Good luck!
