i know that when i was really bad at skiing i wanted to get better, but i didnt know any methods or ways to get better and try new things. so just post some techniques on what you did to get better for the people who are new to skiing and are serious.

convince yourself to do something.... i was scared as shit about going 90 on a box or trying 180's or 360's a bit ago but now its different.

I always hike when i feel as though i need to get something accomplished and get in the mindset of "ok retard you hiked it now do what you're supposed to so the hike isn't worthless"

also inspiration from friends is good. as long as their not being dicks about it too

for me its mostly just a matter of saccin up and doing it.  i just think, whatevers gonna happen is gonna happen or something along that

what has been said about practice. also trampoline and turf setup in summer will do wonders for your air sense/tricks and rail sense, respectively. backyard jib did wonders for my rail sliding abilities this summer. i came back this winter better than i left last spring. i dont have access to a trampoline unfortunately so i dont have myself as an example for that. thats all i got. you just gotta go for it. oh and try and stay in shape in summer (i havent. REALLY wish i did)

just do what i did: buy a gangster suit, wear a magic suit underneath, tie a saga suit around your waist, get two pairs of splices and wear them both, get scott team issue poles, full tilts, and afterbangs. you will the best in no time.

The ten commandments to successful park skiing:

1. Ski every day and be willing to hike for ridiculously long periods of time to get a trick.
2. Just do shit, don't think about it that much. The more instinctual it is, the better it will often go. This obviously doesn't go for tricks that you haven't done on tramps/diving boards.
3. Ski with people who are better than you.
4. Huck your tricks off of everything. If you can do a switch three, do it off a cliff. Then do it off a bigger cliff(really impressive btw, and ridiculously easy). If you can do tap 180 in the park, do it somewhere on the mountain. If there is a random roller that nobody is tricking off of, then trick off it.
5. Be dedicated, remember that the only reason the pros are pro is because they wanted it more than everybody else. You have to ask yourself if there is someone who is willing to work harder than you. If you find the answer is yes, then make it no.
6. Compete, no matter how badly you get owned. Getting destroyed in a comp is one of the best motivators in skiing.
7. Push yourself. Hit bigger jumps, do your tricks off bigger jumps. If you can hit it comfortably, chances are you're ready to start throwing tricks off it.
8. Don't skip features. If you see a rail that you think is a bit too gnarly, try it anyways. The worst that could happen is you fall off it. Obviously there are exceptions, but don't ever skip something you know you could probably do.
9. Learn lots of tricks. The more rightside and leftside stuff you do, switch and forward, off axis, inverted stuff you do the better you'll get at everything. Do it all.
10. Be diverse. Learn rail tricks, box tricks, hip tricks, jump tricks, pipe tricks, silly tricks like hand drags and butters, and generally just try to be as good as you can be at everything. This will not only make you look good, but allow you to progress your skiing no matter the conditions, whether windy or sunny, slushy or icy, hard or soft, jumps or no jumps.

Great stuff in this thread.  I like Andreas Hatveit's trick tips.

I think he does a great job of breaking things down.  Also the tip about how to get going first thing really helped me.  Basically we all get into habits of doing the same shit when we are warming up.  Maybe you go for a natural 5 or something.  So if that trick feels a little off one day it might throw you off your game for the rest of the day.  His suggestion was to do something basic but different and probably unnatural.  It makes sense because, if that trick doesn't go perfect you aren't really expecting it to and you won't start thinking that something's wrong with you.

We always say "Nike nigga JUST DO IT!" The more you think the harder it is! Like the list the more instinctive it is the better. Also once we learn tricks we do them everyday until its natural.

i would have gotten alot better alot quicker if i wasnt so fearful of falling, so i would skip features and chicken out on alot of stuff. just try everything, unless you think its completely out of your ability then just try it and you will get better and have more fun

1. never be afraid that your gonna get hurt, it happens to everyone and you have to learn to walk it off, dont let fear be your biggest obstacle

2. go for it all, doing something that seems impossible will eventually turn out to be easier and easier the more times you do it

3. spinning on rails, boxes, in the air, etc, makes everything look amazing, although it seems hard at least try eventually you'll get it

basically all you have to do is not fear and go for it all
