Colleges with good skiing nearby?

 I'm looking for any good colleges that are within a reasonable drive of a major ski area.  I already know Dartmouth is very close to Killington, and CU obviously is a day trip from Summit and Eagle County resorts.  I wondering if there are any other good colleges in similar proximity to a ski hill.  I'm sure somebody has done research like this before so I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

Washington State? Seriously? Snoqualmie barely qualifies as skiing. Alpental, certainly, but Wazzu is still a bit of a drive.

CU is nowhere near skiing.  It is 2 hours of hairball driving from good skiing.  This has been discussed many times.  There are only 2 colleges in the country 30 minutes from sick skiing. 

University of Utah and Montana State University.

These 2 schools are super close to sickness.  All others are over an hour.  Thus you cannot go skiing and go to school on the same day.  At U of U and Montana State you can ski for 3 hours and make it to a 2:00 class or go to class until 1:00 and still have quality turns.  There is Westminister in Salt Lake as well.

At CU you are just a weekend warrior.

i go to uconn, its about a 3 hour drive to lower vt, idk if you wanna drive that much but i do it every weekend...its not bad after a while.

i dont know what your going to college for, but if its something in art/culinary arts the art institute of salt lake city is 45 min from PCMR, canyons, and Alta/Snowbird

I'm going to hate on the eastcoast and only list western colleges. All are within 2 hours of at least halfway tolerable-decent skiing.

Within 2 hrs.
Colorado. Montana. Montana St. Sacramento St. UC Davis. Eastern Washington. Southern Oregon. Boise St. Idaho St. Portland St. Nevada-Reno. New Mexico. Colorado School of Mines. Fresno St. Colorado St. Sierra Nevada College. Utah. Utah St. Southern Oregon. Ft. Lewis College. Any Seattle area school. Central Washington.

Within 2-4 hours
Idaho/Washington State (within 2.5 of Schweitzer/Silver Mtn). Oregon/OSU (within 2.5 hours of Mt. Batchlor) Any SF Bay Area school (within 3-4hr of Tahoe) Chico St (within 2.5 of Tahoe)

Other schools with potential? (southwest schools that might not always have good snow)

UNLV (5 hours from mammoth. 3 hours from Brian Head. Within an hour of Ski Las Vegas)
Northern Arizona (20 mins from Arizona Snowbowl. 6 hours from Telluride/Silverton)
Any LA area school (within 1hr of Mt. High/Baldy. within 2hr to Big Bear. 5.5hrs to Mammoth)
Arizona St (within 2 hrs of Arizona Snowbowl. 4 hrs of Ski Sunrise)


I'm probably leaving a shitload of smaller/ private schools out - seeing as I have mostly checked out publics, but care to add any to the list if you may.

and RPI is in the fucking hood. Albany is bad, but Troy(i don't care if they call it renselear) is on par with Detroit.

any school around northern utah really university of utah westminster etc brighton has good night skiing and pc and canyons has best utah parks its a no brainer.

Incline kinda sucks. Maybe just because I went to HS there, but no desire to ever go to SNC cuz the town is lame. Prolly a LOT sicker as a college student though. I can only imagine.

U of U is pretty sick and right near all the Utah resorts. Plus Jackson is like 4 hours away and Big Sky is around 5 hours away. Tahoe too is also only 8 hours away. Add in Summit County being only 8 hours away and Salt Lake is pretty close to all the sickest places in America. For the summer stuff, Hood is a drivable distance away as well.

You can also scope out Oregon State Cascades. You can get all of your core classes done at Central Oregon Community College (same campus as OSU Cascades) and then get a 4 year degree. Its pretty limited, but its in Bend, which is 20 minutes from Bachelor and less then 2 hours from Hood. Plus Bend is a pretty sick town. Definitely miss living there.


If you are REALLY into backcountry check out Western Washington University in Bellingham. I dont know too much about it, but know some people that go there and its extremely close to Baker. Im pretty sure Whistler is about 2 hours or so away as well.

You can also consider University of Nevada Reno. Its a pretty sweet school and close to Tahoe. The only thing is, you either hate or love Reno.

35min. from sickness (crested butte) thus you can go skiing and go to school on the same day

not too mention the other resorts in the cottonwoods and the endless touring opportunities...

western washington-bellingham, and lots of community colleges around seattle

university of alaska-southeast 30 mins from skiing depending on where you live

u of utah was a no brainer for me. 30-40 mins from park city, brighton, solitude, snowbird, alta and some others. its pretty much in slc which is a really unique city, and its a pretty solid school too. yes, there is alcohol here, and people to share it with you, sometimes they might even be morman. maybe not as good of an education as dartmouth, but if you really want that something that special just do well in utah and go somewhere else for graduate work. a lot of the high paying jobs (which i assume u want bc u wanna go to dartmouth) require some post graduate work. anyway, the skiing here will pretty much be the best 4 years of your skiing life, especially if your used to the east.
