Question on ACL recovery (trying to ski next season)

So I tore my right acl last January at the home mountain (Bristol, NY) by catching a edge while riding away from a flatdown bar. So I schedualed surgury for the end of may (I go to college in San Francisco so recovering now = not a option) I just gota take it easy, and bike/ do streches to keep my knee strong so I'm in good shape before surgury and recovery goes well. So basically I will rehab from surgury starting in June, and Im hopefull to be skiing by late december. Has anyone gone through a similar situation (prolly a dumb question)?

I tore my ACL two and a half weeks ago and am scheduled for surgery on the 4th. Right now, I can't even tell I did anything to it, and I banged it real good. My mom had her surgery in mid April and was skiing in December. Might be a little later for you but you should be good. And you tore it last January, as in over a year ago? Or did you just do it this year?

several of my good friends have had surgery on there acl and i cant stress enough after surgery do not go to quickly take it easy follow everything they say and do all the physical therapy stretches they give you. one of my buddies just have surgery for the seconded time because he tried to get back on his knee to quickly and ended up tearing it more and ending his skiing for at least two seasons (most of last year all of this year) so good luck hope you get back out there soon!

So does mine but there is absolutely no way you can. I skied down literally 2 minutes after I did mine and it felt pretty much fine, but if you don't want to tear anything else, don't ski.

Why wait? Yes what you are saying is very reasonable (I was skiing park 5 months after acl surgery), but why wait? Longer is better.

i tore my acl last jan and had surgery march 1st. I had some flexion issues and didn't start running until september. But I rehabed super hard all summer. did a ton of weights and balance stuff (the balance work has improved my edge control and reaction time 100%). I skied Dec 1st. The first month I was pretty timid... but then I started charging again. I am in the best shape of my life and skiing way better than before I tore my acl. it was kind of a blessing in disguise. Just make sure your muscle is there and your leg is strong before you start getting back into it.

I had surgery the begining of June and started skiing lightly around the mountain the begining of December. I took it easy for a while, but have been slowly working back into it. Still not jumping all out, but rails are pretty much back to normal. Just rehab hard and you will be able to get back out there next year.

I tore My ACL December 08. Went to the doctor and he told me it wasn't my acl. I skied over 50 days on it plus half a season of ice hockey. It kept giving out on my and in the summer I went to a better doctor after I hurt it again. Turns out the first diagnosis was wrong, and by skiing and skating on it i tore up my meniscus too, but I was able to ski fine after I tore it. I'd just wait it out. I had surgery in the end of July 09 and now I'm back skiing great.

i tore my ACL and partially tore my mcl 3 years ago ive skied the last two seasons without it its not great and i dont ski at 100% but its definately do able i got a good knee brace and still ski park and hit the backcountry pretty hard. that being said ive got surgery scheduled for this summer. You can ski park but be careful becuase its easy to hyperextend your knee and that hurts like shit

i tore my miniscus and acl in august and got my miniscus taken out. i didnt want to get the acl sergury yet so i have been skiing all this season so far. BUT i can not land forward. like when i fuck up on a trick and land forward it suposeable tears cartalidge in my knee. it swells up real big. but hey im making it work for this season by just landing switch ha. now i dont even think about it i jsut always land that way. i am getting my acl sergury at the end of march and im trying to be back by next season. well hope all goes well for you man im in the same boat. and honestly the recovery is nothing as the doctor says. this is what i have heard from pro football players that my uncle does sergury on. because the recovery depends all on YOU. if you work it everyday and keeps getting a little harder workouts everyday you can be back in 4 to 5 months. good luck bro
