Metal Flashing

Does anyone know what this stuff, metal flashing is?  For those of you that don't its a thin metal sheet that can be bent.  My idea is to use a press to bend it around a 2 by 4 to make a cheap surface alternative.  I have no idea what kind of metal it is but what kinds work and does it sound like the metal flashing bent around a 2 by 4 will work?  Has anyone tried this or made another thread on this?

possibly a good idea maybe i dont know where to find that stuff though but if u make it post pictures and say how it works

yea they use it for joints of roofs under the shingles
i've had a 24 inch wide roll of stainless steel flashing sitting around for a year waiting to be made into a rail

thats cool ill buy some and test it out might have to wait till the summer, im to bussy skiing now.  Is stainless steel good for a rail topping?

is metal flashing just another word for sheet metal?  also, stainless steel never rusts does it?

i guess its just really thin metal, and stainless steel is not supposed to rust.  I had a grill made out of that and it never rusted.  Is steel a good rail material?

I'm thinking it's gonna be too soft and a bit bumpy seems like you'll catch edges pretty easily but I've never tried it so definitely make it and let us know

they make stainless steel, copper, and aluminum flashing.

it's obviously not copper, or you'd notice, so it's either SS or Aluminum. if it is easy to bend, it's aluminum, and you'll most likely catch an edge. if it's harder to bend it's stainless, and you're good to go, as long as you can get it real flat
