Taking out stitches on my own.

I've had the stitches in for 11 days , and I'm going skiing today..The stitches are on my knee so I was wondering would it be better to leave them in or take them out? Would they rip through my skin if I kept them in? Thanks.

duuuuude dont do surgury on your own...i had 8 stitches abve the ski and 5 under for a cut below my kneecap and i went skiing with them in two weeks after...i think youll prolly be fine, but they might just tighten up a little

It's healed though...I was wondering if it would rip. I can bend the knee to its full extent.

well this doesn't sound as bad as what you have but awhile ago I had 3 stitches in a cut on my arm.  It had healed almost completely so I took them out myself, it hurt but no long term damage.  Again this is a lot less minor injury then what your knee sounds like.

i took mine out after about 11 days because they were in an awkward spot and kept ripping further through my skin. its not hard to take them out, just make sure they have been in for as long as the dr said.

depends on what your wearing. if the pants rub it they will rip the stitches.

Cuts requiring stitches (at least all of mine) heal after 7-10 days, and that is when you are supposed to go to the doctor to get them out.  All they do at the doctor's is get a STERILE x-acto blade and carefully slice the string, then pull them out.  Its a very out-patient procedure.  That being said, if you can get a sterile tool to remove them with, go for it.  I would put some steri-strips or something similar on the wound afterwards though, just to be safe.

This, i had stiches in my knee and went skiing a week and a half later and it slit open agin. It left a huge scar and took alot longer to heal.

dont take them out I rolled my truck and got a huge gash in my hand,  had stitches for a week took em out cause it looked healed on top but deeper in the cut it woesnt     let it be untill ur docter says

I just took a skate to my leg in hockey the other day and got eight stitches. And now it is snowing in MI. It is pissing me off, idk if I wanna ski with it becuase its right on my ankle. Also I think you can take them out if they are loose, and that is really the only time you can tell its healed.

ive taken mine out to kayak before. no sterile tools, just cut them and pull them out.  if it does get infected ( it probably wont) youll know because it turns green and hurts when you touch it. then just go to the doctor and hell give you some pills to kill the infection. they give you the shits real bad though.

ive had stiches in my knee and in my ankle a took em out my self, just saves you on medical bills, and theyre just stiches, you could stich a cut by your self, its not like a triple bypass, if they do rip through witch happened to me on both occasions it hurts a little but not bad, dont worry about it just go ski.

i did mine with a pocket knife, im fine and its not that big of a deal being sterile for taking out stitches

DO NOT DO IT!

i had stiches in my knee and since you move your knee so much your  knee will rip open it happened to me and it sucks if it ripps open it will take double the time to reheal, if you do ski leave em in.

If it has already been long enough and you could go have the doctor take them out then yes, take them out instead of wasting your time going to the doctor.

Anyone who says ahhh don't fuck with it is a huge pussy it's a fucking cut in your skin this isn't life or death. All you have to do is cut them then pull the pieces out with tweezers.

your knee is going to be going through a lot of movement, so I would suggest leaving them in if you decide to ski, it's just like insurance, you don't really need it all the time but its nice to have it if you fuck up (or the cut tries to split)

I would keep them in and put a pad of cloth over it and tape that to your leg so they don't rip out.make sure you put no tape on the stitches so they don't rip out when you take it off.

If it is healed then you can take them out by yourself. I recommend going to a doctor though. Not because he can take them out any better than you (They literally cut them and slowly pull them out) but because he will know if it is healed enough to take them out. If it is very obviously healed you can do it on your own though with no problems, make sure you put polysporin on it after.
