4.0 GPA scale vs. 5.0 GPA scale

For a project in one of my classes, the group I'm in is trying to change the 4.0 GPA scale we have at my high school to a 5.0 scale, where Honors and AP classes would be weighted. We have to present this to the principal and the school board, and therefore need a good argument that refutes any reasons for having a 4.0 scale.

So, what are some reasons we should have a 4.0 scale, or why do you think we should? Also, any input on why a 5.0 system would work would be great too.

I have no idea what scale my school goes on all I know is that AP Classes are weighted 1.25x the grade you get in the class. Example 80%=100% in the class

Oh i realize how retarded high school is, i took those classes because i actually wanted to learn. I dont mean to sound like a dick, but i take joy from understanding things, like weather and how people think. Now if i had known that colleges dont really give a fuck that i took those classes, i wouldnt have taken them. I was misled by the school. Your totally right, thats why i think that there should be more incentive for taking those classes.

Every school I applied too made it clear that they didn't give a crap what your weighted GPA was.  It's pointless.  Believe it or not, their selection boards can distinguish between AP, honors, and regular classes when they read your transcript.

Yeah my school is essentially the same. Apparently our regular classes are equal with our local public schools' honors classes. The rigors of a college preparatory curriculum.

Should be graded on an 8.0 scale. Or 4.0 as follows

A-4

B-3.5

C-3

D-2.5

F-0-2

To reflect what actual percentage you're getting. Instead of just a small glimpse of a scale represented as a 0-100% by the scale starting at 0. And because kids who really don't get the subject and fail a class deserve some credit for going everyday and trying to pass the class (this is in HS at least... college I don't agree, as prerequisites are more pivotal in advancement/progression)
