IPod touch problem

So back in sometime during summer when the first update that came out that costed 10$ I decided not to get it and just kinda let my iPod to collect dust in the corner of my room. But today, I found it and brought it back out in hopes of checking out the new NS app. But when I plug it into my computer it wont get past the apple logo. It says installing device hardware but then it just fails. I asked it to bring me to the "get help" section but that bullshit doesnt even load. So, I am just wondering if any computer savvy people know what to do here?
