Legit colleges near mountains

hey i just got my 2 year college degree in buff new york. im tryin to move out west but am kinda stumped on where i should go next. i hate winters here but we have some nice hand rails in the city for sure. though every year we get less and less snow, along with a ski resort hill shutting down for good everyyear it seems cuz of lack of snow. so i have a few colleges in mind but i would really like to hear some input from you guys it will really help me out. im trying to get into physical therapy-pre med so i know theres alot of schools all over the place that has such degrees cuz its so common.. i just want to go somewhere where i dont have to drive 4 hours to ski cuz ide never go with school work and all and planning that far of a drive.

If you are looking for a good pre-med program and then med school to follow at the same school, you should check out the University of Washington. Great school and only 40 minutes from snoqualmie/alpental, (www.summitatsnoqualmie.com) and 1 hr. 15 min. from Stevens pass (http://www.stevenspass.com/) and 2 hr. 15. from Mt Baker (www.mtbaker.us). Plus in the summer, its only 4 hours to mt hood (3 to Portland) and 2.5 hours to Vancover, B.C. The school its self is great though, you should check it out.

It is a big school, and there is definatley a large party scene, but it is a very good school. UW  is one of the best med schools in the country - 6th in research and 1st in primary care, if you take it to that level. It is highly competitive as well, but coming from out of state will help you if you decide to apply. There are different groups of people though, so it can be whatever you make it as far as the type of people you hang out with.

UBC

Vancouver Campus is better school wise and has whistler (and 3 other decent hills)
Okanogan Campus has tons of awesome hills and you are closer to mountains like Revelstoke and Kickinghorse, plus there is way more urban potential.

ive done a bunch of research on sierra nevada college in tahoe. ide rather live in california or colorado. idealy ide love to live in bc but i dont know about that cuz ide be trying to move into a apt with a few of my friends and citiizenship could get hairy

realize that sierra nevada college has like 300 kids. if you want a college experience, while still being able to ski sick tahoe mountains, i'd go to unr.

decent list, i would also suggest check out Ft. Lewis in durango, CO and U of Montana, Missoula... there are a ton of options available... i would suggest checking them out a bit before you settle though

i know your in NY, but UVM..40 or so min from stowe, smuggs, bolton valley, mad river..and about an hour from Jay Peak..

i got family down in durango, and i live in denver so im down there quite a bit, seein them and shredding, durango has Ft. Lewis College which is a D2 4 year school, but durango has purgatory, wolf creek (which if it isnt the first, its one of the top 3 mountains with the most snow in the nation) MASSIVE amounts of pow. but anyway its a pretty good school and the skiing down there is bomb!

i donno. ive heard nothin but bad things about the city. i heard it was pretty expensive to live there in terms of renting an apt.

ive actually taken much interest in ft lewis they seem to have a good school and i dont play any sports besides outdoor shit like mtn biking and skiing. i did play lax but not anymore. hows the town . is it a real snooter town like aspen cuz thats the only ski town ive been to in co and its all snooter.  another big thing hows the party scene there.

If your a real man and enjoy lumberjacking in your free time come to Michigan Tech. Really really good engineering school, oh yeah and the local hill is less than 5 mins from campus and its free for all students. And Mt. Bohemia is only a 45 min drive away. Cant beat free skiing

Regarding pre-med, apparently Gonzaga University (Spokane, WA) isn't a bad option--they've really been stepping up their medical options in the past few years.

Other schools that come to mind are Seattle University and University of Portland. I can't speak much about their medical programs. I don't know; I mean you could go with the classic skiing options (U of U, UC Boulder, MSU, etc.), but a lot (not all) of the time, you take a sacrifice on academics. If you're focusing on pre-med, you don't want to do that.

How can people keep posting these gay schools that are nowhere near skiing?

Only 2 colleges in the country have campuses within 30 minutes of ski skiing:

University of Utah and Montana State University.

The others are all nowhere near skiing.  UW is 3 hours from sick skiing.  UNR is 1.5 hours, denver is 2 hours.  Those schools have little hills closer but for real skiing it is a long ways away.  UofU and MSU are the only schools you can be a serious mid-day skier at a sick resort.

UW has stevens pass 90 minutes away, which is sick, and snoqualmie/alpental 45 minutes away.

UNR has mt. rose, northstar, squaw all within 45 minutes. and more still.

thanks for the info and you seem to be rite considering. i have looked into ft lewis which is about 25 miles from durango mt resort. uofu seems to be very expensive if your not dorming which i would be living with  4 of my boys in an apt near the school. msu seems legit though. def some good programs. thanks for your .$0.02 though

the docks near the skyway have a few stair cases but its always sketchy cuz you'll go there one day and the next the snow will be blown away. also in the inner city in allentown as well as a few spots on delaware. the elmwood gallery- delaware area has alot of shit you will end up gettin booted though. ppl arent down. they think your literly out of your dome. cuz not many ppl around the city ski or snowboard at all and prob dont even know about out resorts thier out ther just gotta look

Montana State University has something like 86% acceptance rate into med school from the pre med program. And Bridger Bowl is top notch for skiers looking to ski backcountry/ big mountain type skiing.

Well theres probably more rails in Van then Kelowna, but there has been snow in vancouver for no  more than 30mins this year where as kelowna has snow 4 months of the year.


I go to UBC and my sister goes to UBC-O both are rad. You'll get a much more of the traditional university experience in Van, but in Kelowna you'll have smaller class sizes and less competition.

UBC has Cypress, Seymour and Grouse all half an hourish drive and Whistler 1:30-2 hrs.

UBC-O has Big White like 45mins ish, Silver Star, Rev, Apex, Sun Peaks all within striking distance but realistically Big White is the only one that can be skied on a consistent basis.
