Ski lift stories

I really hope no one has made this thread yet, if so please delete it mods. This thread is for you guys to share your great lift stories! I know I have a few funny ones, some which i cannot even remember. But feel free to say anything, things that happen to you, the people in front of you on the lift, and things in the lift line.

I'll start off with a story of my own. One of my favorites was the time when we were going up a chair lift at Stevens Pass and a girl in front of us was swinging her legs back and forth and she popped off her ski, then she started freaking out and she turned around quickly and popped her other ski off by accident, this was on one of the hardest runs that the lift went over. it was pretty funny seeing her get off the lift too.

i was visiting keystone, i was alone, and i snaked the entire  lift line (like 40 people in line) for the lift that goes over the A-51 park, i snaked it from the left side, and at the exact same moment i ducked the ropes and cut the line, chas guldemond cut the line from the other side, we both met right at the chair in the middle. there were people everywhere like "hey!" "wtf is this shit!?" me and chas just got on the chair together real quick, then i looked over and was like "holy shit... are you chas guldemond?"
i took a picture of us together.


i was also riding breck, and i got on a lift with a guy that rides holiday valley, a mountain right near my home mountain, we even kinda knew each other from competing in usasa it was so weird seeing someone you know on the complete other side of the country.

at my home mountain i got three girls i knew to flash me once, and i jumped off the lift so i could go get a $5 bill i saw on the ground. the other night there was this super hott racer girl that was stressing about being late for her race, and i wanted time to try to chat her up on the lift, so i asked the lifites to slow it down for me a bunch of times. it was all my friends working and over the course of my liftride they kept stopping/slowing it for no reason at all. it was excellent.

One time I decoded to hike this one rail a couple of times and my friends got on the lift. After hiking the rail a couple times the lift stopped. I just kept hiking. About 15 minutes later it is still stoped, and I was still just hiking the rail. In the end I hiked the rail for 40 minutes while my friends were stuck on the chair.

i was in the gondola at stowe with my friend last year and a bunch of ripped uvm kids got in and right before we got to the waterfall the lift stopped and the kids started talking about how they should put skis on the bottom of the gondola car and a steering wheel inside so if it broke and fell off they could control it all the way back to the base lol

i was a lifte at copper and on a ride break i was riding up american eagle with these three kids who got in the biggest fuckin argument about which was better paper or porclen plates.. and this kids starteing punching eachother and almost fell off the chair. i had to say.. HEY CALM THE FUCK DOWN. and one kid was like .. what are you gonna do about it.  so i flashed my name tag and said if you want to contuine skiing to today.. shut up! they acted accordently. but then they told there parents and my mangager had a talk with me and just told me not to swear at customers.!

Today i was riding up the triple at belleayre(a NY Catskill mt) and i was riding with what i thought was a Japanese women, in a pink one piece, relatively new salamon boots and straight skis from the late 80s. I was getting off at the mid station and lapping the park. When it was time to lift the bar up, she wouldn't let me.

I than say can we lift the bar "i am getting off here"
She says something in japanese in a strange voice and refuses for me to lift the bar and get off, so i say fuck it she doesn't speak japanese. So i rode to the top and got off and skied upper yahoo to the park.

I go in the lodge later to take my boots off, 5 minutes later that lady walks into the lodge and sits down like 3 tables over, "she" takes here helmet off and then i realize she is a he.

Damn japanes tourist you are sooooo strange

It does suck. I was going to go to hunter but it was my dad's friends birthday and he skis at belleayre, and my dad was my ride this weekend.

There are two lifts with two stops, it is the one on lookers left, skiers right

yesterday i was riding up with two kids, 9 and 7, and the 9 year olds ski just falls off, no idea how this happened.  His little bro was afraid to go try and find it, cause he doesn't know the way or something.  So i decide to go get it for him and tell him to wait for me at the top.  I take the run and bring the ski up, then on my way back up, the lift stops and we are stuck for a while.  When i finally get to the top the kid tells me that his skis have fallen off that lift all the time.  Im still confused, get that fixed little bro!

But that reminds me... ha sorry its so long.

Some of you might be aware of an up and coming skiier named Cole Schoning? Hes had shots in some PBP movies... anyways, me(13 at the time) and his cousin Erich Bracht (15 at the time, also an incredible skiier) are in line at skyline because our race course was on skyline that day and we were just cycling the course for training. Skyline was MUCHO crowded and we decided to backout and try and go to hogsback. I barely take a small step backwards to get out when some guy starts SCREAMING at me. I turn around and this guy is RAGED. He definatley had "that look" in his eye like he was going to kill someone. Ok so what he was screaming about was apperantly I stepped on his gf's ski. Ok first of all bro WTF thats gunna mess up MY bases not hers, but anyways this guy is GOING OFF on me and you have to understand I was maybe 5'5 and 85 pounds. Seriously. Normally I would have given this guy a run for his money but I was really just in shock cause I actually hadnt done anything? So the whole liftline is watching as he screams at me in the top of his lungs and calls me numerous profanitys and I stutter out the word "sorry?" and then HE SWINGS HIS POLE AT ME. HARD. He missed, and I was like "What the hell!?" and HE DOES IT AGAIN! finally other adults in the line got him away from me and me and erich get on the chair. I was kind of confused and erich (who is wayyyyyy bigger then me and definately could have whooped this guys butt) is all shook up and scared, but my parents taught me not to take shit from anyone and I had a pretty good feeling my skiing ability topped this guy by a million to 1, so... at the top of skyline as me and erich ski past Mr. Psycho I say "See ya later FUCKTARD". Next thing I know there is a WILD ANIMAL on my tail! He was literally skating so hard in order to picture it you should imagine someone skating on skis trying to outrun a tiger or something but then add in him swinging his poles like a mad man and swearing up a storm! This is where what my health teacher calls "fight or flight" kicks in. You know... those endorphins that kick in during emergencys that like puts your body on auto pilot until your safe... Ok so there was a pretty dam big line at seventh and thats where we were going but we honest to god could not stop because this man LITERALLY would have BEATEN the LIVING HELL OUT OF US. so we basically just run into everyone in the seventh lift line at full speed and just knock everyone out of our way and yell MOVE MOVE and the lift op says "what the hell are you guys doing" and we both go "HES TRYING TO KILL US" and point and the lifty says 'HOLYY SHIT GET ON THE CHAIR" so we jump on a chair as fast as we can right as mr. murder pulls into 7th and me and erich turn to see two lift ops and a skiier guy tackle him to the ground, clip his ticket, and call security.

Hahah all lies aside it was actually very scary. Hellllllla crazy

so me and my friends are riding up the comet lift at silver star in december.  we just got past the 2nd tower and it stops.  a bolt in one of the wheels bent.  a maintenance guy came and he said it would be only 15 minutes.  it ended up taking two hours.  and the worst part was that it was -25 with the wind chill.  never been so cold

A couple weeks ago I was riding Tea Cup at Vail on a pow day.  My friend and I had just smoked with some old lady the lift before and were feeling good.  We got stuck riding up with an older couple, maybe 50-60's, and start telling them about the insane lift line we had just dealt with in the next bowl over (in retrospect I think it was Sun-up bowl, for anyone who knows Vail).  I didn't know the name, so I gesture to left to indicate where the lift was, and instantly they were both like "theres no lifts over there".  I was pretty sure that there was indeed a lift over there and made sure to impress upon them that they were wrong.  Well the wife says to me "If you'd been skiing here for 45 years then I guess you would know the mountain as well as we do!"  I was pissed, because at that point I could see over towards the bowl we had come from, and I knew there was stuff there, but I decided to not give a shit.  Then the wife asks me where we were trying to get to (understand that I know Vail pretty damn well, just not by name), and I was like "I don't know, wherever looks good".  This comment seems to blow both hers and her husbands mind, and then they start to point out run names to us, as if you can't ski without  knowing what trail you're on.  Then they get in an argument with each other about run names, the back bowls, lifts, etc.  Finally she looks back at me and says, "we've decided you boys must have come from Blue Sky Basin earlier".  I didn't even care anymore, so I didn't say anything at all, I just sat wondering how they could have skied there so long and been so uptight and unknowledgeable. 
After a couple of minutes the husband looks over at my skis (Unity Saucers, 130 underfoot, hefty rocker), and then to break the silence says "are those trick skis?"  I didn't even want to say anything so all I replied was "no".  And he looks right back at me and says "NO, those are trick skis."  and I'm thinking, who the hell are these people?  So then I had to explain that they were mainly for powder purposes.  He says to me, "Yep, Vail gets the most powder of any place in the World", and he was 100% certain of that fact.  His wife nods, and I knew there was no hope in talking to these people about serious skiing, so I said "have you really been skiing here for 45 years?"  And the wife says "yeah, we've taken a few days off to come stay out here every year".  It turns out they were from Florida, but from the way the talked I could have sworn they were locals.  -Really

A51 Keystone, Hittin up some railage, get to the lift, they say last run, and were the only people there, so we hop on, this was night skiing, no lights on mainstreet jumps, as were going up the lift stops, and were about 3/5 of the way to the top, right at the third Main Street jump. After a few minutes the lights go off, in the whole terrain park, and were hanging 30 ft above the ground, with no one around. 10 minutes later a snow cat drives beneath us and starts working on the jumps, were hollering at the "Park Bullie" but it can hear us. But we figure our best chance would be to keep hollering. This whole time the trailer for FROZEN is playing through our heads, then finaly 20 minutes later, a lift opperator at the top hears us, right before he gets on his snowmobile, and brings us to safety. Truth.

I was working and downloading a kid at the top of Whistler Blackcomb when i go to pull the bar down and the kid decides to slide off the seat, i reach over and grab him with one hand whilst the lifty went to shut off the lift, kid was hanging a good 10 feet off the ground! worst thing was the whole restaurant began to notice and start watching us, so I i swang him and dropped him into some soft snow as he was a real fatty and could not get him back into the chair!

The fat kid almost ripped my arm out of my socket and I had to spend the rest of the day filling out reports!!!!

I was standing in the lift line next to this guy who was telling me how great of a skier he was. when it was time to get on tha lift he fell trying to get on. After my run i cam down to the base just in time to see him do it again.

i was just messing around while getting on the lift with a friend by messing around by pushing him..this resulted in him falling over taking down the kid next to him and causing the whole lift to stop and both double ejected

I went sking in Winter Park 2 years ago on a church trip, so I brought a quad with me. The first day we went out I started smoking on the chair lift next to some old lady and started coughing. I told her I swallowed some snow and then noticed that I had dropped my whole sack off the lift. Lost a little less then a quad of the dank that day, FML!

Was at Stratton the other day with one of my friends and we got on a chair with this couple and their young daughter.

Typical chair ride, go to lift up the bar a little before the last pole. The dad slams it back down and freaked out saying, "What are you doing we have plenty of time left." I looked at how close the end was an was liek alright my bad. So he finally lifts the bar once his skis touch carpet. Some people blow my mind

I was ridding up the lift once and the kid in front of me was by himself so the chair was swinging. THEN he was going by and the chair swung this little kid into the pole, he fell of the chair and hit his neck on the padding around the bottom. He got carted off!

aight more of a gaper quote on a chairlift but w/e..

so i decided to take a park lap then meet up with some friends. they called me on the lift and asked me where i was (turns out they were already at the meeting spot). i tell them i will go bomb a run called "see me". well the people on my lift thought what i said was "bomb-see-me". (as in one phrase). they took it that it meant to go really fast. so they started saying "im gona go soooo bombseeme down this run right here". was funny for a bit then it got annoying as fuck.

This was totally sketch, but one time I didn't put the bar down!  No, you heard me right.  Don't reread it.  I was so paranoid the whole day, expecting ski patrol  to clip my ticket and ban me from the Mtn.  I showed them... maybe next time I won't "prepare to unload" and "keep my ski tips up".  Bitches

haha yesterday while getting off the lift my sister didnt put her tips up (shes 6) and she caught and went face first to the lift slope. we all thought she was hurt really bad but when we went over she was just laughing her head off, it was great.

Hahah thanks bro, and the other two...

I remember everything about it like it was yesterday. I just remember telling my step dad about it when I got back to my cabin and he was so pissed.

But if any of you are interested in seeing something like that story go down in person hit me up and ski with me at stevens pass! hahah I dont think ive ever gone skiing without having atleast 1 lift line altercation.

Example- Skyline was kinda crowded and the lines got all distorted and my 3 friends that I was riding up with had room to skoot forward and did but I didnt so I just kinda slid up next to them. We werent even trying to snake it hard but if we saw an oppurtunity to hop up one spot we would, anyways I kinda cut off some snowboarder kid but its whatever then all the sudden some random ski guy starts bitching at me about it so I say "Im sorry sir the lift lines are obviously very crowded and the lines have gotten somewhat intermixed" - the man responds with bitching and shit and getting in my face a little - so I take my gogs off and get back in his face for sure and inform him that its not my fucking fault some snowboarder cant stay with his own fucking group in a lift line.

its funny cause im 5'9 - 120 hhahah

haha another good one. here one that happened to me at whistler:

I was in the singles lift line of rollercoaster (i think thats the name) and i got into a group with 3 people. we start going up and about a minute up the guy (i think he was with his kids) just started going of about how im supposed to ASK before i get into a group. I told him WTF its a singles line, im supposed to fucking get in the group with 3 people. he shouts at me telling me that its not polite to not ask though, then he starts telling his kids what a bad person i am and not to grow up and be like me. im only 14 at the time (last year) so i just tell the guy to shut up and ask the lifty at the top how its supposed to happen, i just got off as fast as i could to tell my friend about it when i got to the top.

so last year at shawnee mountain PA (a little beginner hill)  so guy was getting on the life early in the day so i was assuming this was his first time on the lift ever.  He didn't no when to go and move to the line to load so when he realized he needed to be at the line already he hustled for it and it was too late.  He got hit so hard it isn't even funny.  ejected both his skis and knocked his helmet off.   It was a fixed life (you know how fast these things go around the loading areas.  This guy got seriously messed up.  wasn't sure if he was hurt though.

My buddy and I took the park crew's shovels to fix a jump that they were to lazy to do anything about. I had the shovel underneath my legs w/ my poles and as we got to the top i was putting my helmet back on and said, "shit bob, i don't have enough time to get my shit together and get off the lift." sure enough, I went to grab the shovel as i stood up and it got caught on the back rest and stayed in-between my legs. the ground left my feet and i fell onto the handle with my chest, rode around the bull wheel, which had no stopgate, while the lifty was asleep, and then started to go downhill. I either had to jump into body size patch of snow in a field of rocks or send it 30 ft to flat at the first tower. I went for it and landed in snow, spooning with the rocks, but stomped it.

The lifty heard someone yell at him, woke up, stopped the lift, and came to see if i was ok, (he looked more scared then i did) but the funnest part was my dad's college friends who were 3 chairs back heckling me like i was an amateur as i climbed out of the rocks. "Fackin' amateur, where'd ya learn how ta ski Boston? bahahah!"

We then fixed the jump, and had a real fun sesh.

Hahahahaha! I had pretty close to the same experience.  In high school I was a skinny little racer dude and you couldn't be cool unless you rode up the lift with your ski poles under your leg.  You also had to wait until your feet hit the ramp to pull your poles out. 

I was riding this beginner chair with some buddies and I go to get off and my pole strap gets caught on the back of the seat.  I am standing up yanking on my poles but it doesn't work.  I went around the bull wheel sitting suspended on the end of my poles.  I was trying to stay on one side because my nuts were getting crushed and when the chair started going back downhill, I slipped off and got pile driven into the ground.  It was deep powder so I didn't get hurt, but it was probably my most embarrassing ski moment.

Last one for me.  Skiing with a buddy at Steamboat.  The short lift that comes up from Priest Creek to the top of the Gondola used to be slow and went over the top of a cliff.  It was really low and had a little down slope and it was just begging you to jump off.  It wasn't our home mountain so we didn't have to worry about getting our passes pulled, so we went for it.  It was really only about a five foot drop, but when we both jumped off at the same time it pushed the chair back.  I hear my friend yell "Shittttt"!   When the chair swung back it caused him to land on the front side of the little natural off load ramp.  He ended up going off the 15 foot cliff switch with straight 205 CM Racing skis on.   I skied around and underneath the cliff and he had basically just lawndarted switch off the cliff.  He was fine, but it scared the shit out of him.

me and a friend were snaking a lift line, then this gaper snow boarder slides up, REALY pissed, pushes my friend over and yells at us how every one else needs to wait in line, and kept intentionaly running over our skis trying to damage them
