Devastated. My shiny new Moment Rockers, they were so young. Need some advice.
Has anyone here snapped the tip of a ski and then had it repaired? I know they'll never be the same but I can't afford new skis again, I just spent the last of my money buying these. Just after some opinions on whether I could get the skis back to a useable state so I don't miss the rest of the Japanese season.
Yes. I drove over them a couple of times to break them in, I do that with all my skis. You should try it...
I emailed Moment yesterday, they haven't got back to me yet but I don't like my chances of getting them warrantied. Like all brands, their warranty clearly states that it's void in the case of impact damage and it's not like these just snapped when I was cruising down the hill. I was doing a 720 along a box and I caught the tip of the ski on one of the vertical struts of the box when I came off, it chipped the tip a little but I thought it was no biggy since I'd done it a bunch of times with other skis. When I got back to the lift, I took the ski off to have a closer look and saw that the whole tip had snapped.
There's clearly a mark where the tip clipped the box, you can kinda see it in the pics, top left corner. I'm not gonna lie about it, I told Moment what happened in my email. Even if they warrantied it, I'd have to send it back to the U.S and not have any skis for weeks. I think I'd rather just try a dodgy repair and be able to keep skiing. I'm devastated, I only got to use them for 3 days but these are easily the funnest park skis I've ever used!
Actually you me be lucky. i have broken a pair of moments at the same location i am pretty sure that line running across is where the tip spacer and wood core meet if thats the case you could do a montana repair with a aluminium spar and you might have a chance at saving those puppies
I'm trying to decide whether to ski on them tomorrow morning. It's already dumped over a foot and it's still going. I don't have any other skis... Don't want to damage them more if they're repairable but it's snowing dammit!
Dude go and rent some powder skis. Explain to the shop what happened, they might take pity and hook you up with discounted rent for a few weeks. Speak to Moment they have great service, they'll help you out too.
I did ski that pow, it was awesome. I skied the rockers all day and they held up fine, I just kept pressure off the tip as much as possible, even landed some good frontflips in the pow.
Anyway, update: Moment got back to me and have said they're going to send me a replacement set of Rockers! All I have to do is cover shipping because I'm living in Japan. I'm so stoked! The only other time I've ever tried to warranty skis was with some Volkl Walls I bought. They both split LENGTHWAYS after a couple of days for no reason, didn't hit any rocks or anything, they just fell apart. I had to send my skis away for 6 weeks and wait for the warranty guys to assess them. After sitting in Whistler for 6 weeks without my skis Volkl finally got back to me, only to deny the warranty. I ended up fighting my way into eventually getting a replacement set but it was such a better experience with Moment. Couldn't be happier. I've been skiing park most days with the broken tip and have still had plenty of fun, I love them. Hopefully the breakage was just a freak accident.
