Flash Placement

I recently purchased Alienbees Cybersync transmitter for my speedlite flash. I finally got the chance to try it out at night and it felt like my flash placement was pretty stock and boring. I was wondering if you guys have any tips for flash placement as I'd like to make my night look shots better.

I like them.

maybe if you had another flash you could give that a try but i think you made the best of it

flash stand + a cheap vivitar for a fill flash

I don't have much experience on the still side of things, but what about possibly placing them behind the subject / element to try somewhat of a silhouette effect.

I don't have the cash at the moment for another flash to work as a fill or for another receiver.

hmm, cant help you much on a reciever, but Ive got a cheapy canon Id sell for like $15.. but I still suggest a stand..

This+black and white+snow flying around from a skier/boarder jumping is awesome. Anybody ever see jason cagney's (spelling?) shots of the snowboarder on the rainbow rail? So good, using the same technique. That's called rim light by the way.

thats so sick ^ but i do like those shots. i think they would pop more if the skier and boarder had brighter pants. i dont know i like them though.

Try to place the flash where it will slightly illuminate where the snowboarder/skier will end up, in this instance the other side of the triangle thingy. It will create a soft illumination on the other face of the object.

Like these photos tho. would be sick if you could get another flash, could do some really cool stuff.

To get the silhouette effect you need to point your strobe at the background. If you point it at the back of the subject you get a cutout effect, which is also sick

As for the flash placement its really sick if you put your shutter on about 1s, then have one person hold the speed light and trigger it when your subject is half way over the rail.
