So the title basically says it, but I'm kinda on the fence and wondering what NS's thoughts on this situation would be.
There is currently a ban on fraternities at my University (UVIC) in BC. Some guys I have known since elementary school decided it would be cool to start up a chapter of DKE out here. It's all a go, everything is set up money-wise and system-wise, and we're now in the pledging period.
The guys are all pretty chill (yes there are probably maximum 15 of the 50 guys who would potentially fit into the douchebag frat stereotype after being around eachother enough), but everyone is in there for the right reasons. I feel it's different than other frats in that we won't be able to have a good time unless we make it happen, make business decisions, and make a good name for fraternities because there is no legacy of them here. I guess it's our chance to make a fraternity mean what we want it to.
There is no frat house either, so it's not like we're all going to be surrounded by eachother at all times and turning up the douche-meter.
However, I'm kinda still questioning how this will turn out. Will others look at us like we think we're better than them? Will I miss out on meeting legit people because they have something against typical frat guys? Will only the slutty girls be attracted to it and the ones with quality personalities be turned off by the frat image? Like FUCK I can't predict what's going to happen so I went with it. But if anyone has been through it or just has ideas for how it would work out that would be rad.
I do like the idea of being a founding father of a fraternity. Looks good on the resume and will make me feel like I've done something with my life.
