There's an old adage that says, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."
Well I'm done being fooled, as clue after clue has finally steered me to no other choice then to finally label pop star Justin Timberlake as a freeskier.
While Justin has publicly endorsed the game of golf with celebrity tournament appearances, and by purchasing his own golf course, there's no denying the former N'Sync-er has developed a growing affinity for freestyle skiing.
The first instance of this budding romance between Justin and our skiing world was only circumstantial at best. Flash back to 2004 to the World Skiing Invitational (WSI) held each April in Whistler. Who was photographed together? Justin Timberlake and female skiing sensation Sarah Burke. We all assumed that it was obviously Sarah who had wanted to snap the photo of the two together, as she had to be the "fan" given the unlikely situation. But could it be that it was really Timberlake and his passion for freeskiing that brought the two together? Maybe he wanted a photo with the FHM-published ski hottie? This wouldn't be the last time Mr. Timberlake would be involved in our freestyle ski world...
In May 2009 it was confirmed that Timberlake had purchased a condo in ski mecca Park City, UT to spend time with his favorite ski bunny, girlfriend Jessica Biel. Now there is no doubt a ski home is a must-have item for a celebrity, but the close proximity to skier Tom Wallisch and the 4bi9 crew was a little too coincidental.
After the debatable Burke photo incident and Park City shopping, theories were raised further when going into this year's 2009 IF3 skii film festival held in Montreal, the 29-year-old singer posted a preview of said festival on his very own blog. However, Timberlake went beyond just showing us the gnitty-gritty details of the ski film festival, but also showed he was "down" with the ski scene by publishing trailers of ski movies such as PBP's "Every Day is a Saturday" and Simon Dumont's biopic "Transitions" on the very same blog.
Even with these two rather conclusive incidents, many were still skeptical about Timberlake's love for skiing.
However, just today the "smoking gun" was found.
Justin Timberlake has taken to his personal Twitter account (a.k.a. the horse's mouth) to let all the folks out there still living under a rock, just how freaking cool skiing has become.
Timberlake's official Twitter page said: "dunno if u caught the winter x-games but this was WICKED http://bit.ly/dnFDxl
The link was to this video of the now historic TJ Schiller double cork 1620, landed for the first-time ever during Winter X Games 14.
Need I say more folks? Justin Timberlake, the man your girl wants to marry, and the guy you want to go skiing with.
So next time you see him cruising around Aspen or Whistler, ask him to show you his "after bang" skills. I'm sure with his crazy good dance moves the man could lay down some pretty good steeze on the wood planks.
