Windells Housing & Questions

I'm in a difficult place right now trying to make an important decision about Windells this summer.

I'll start with the basics:
My cousin and I have officially decided that we are going to Windells this summer (We've been trying to go for years, and I'm so glad it's finally going to happen). I'm from NY, he's from VT.

We are planning to go session 5. He will be 16 and a half, and I'll be turning 19.

I've been telling him it would be sick to get a condo pretty close and then pay the day camp price of Windells. I've been looking, and there are a lot of nice places with pools and stuff. He thinks it would be cool too, problem is, when you add in a car rental and stuff, it could total to much more than going the overnight camp route.

Since I'll be over 18 and he'll be under 18, we would have to stay in separate places anyway at Windells, right? (I don't want to do that.)

With me being almost 19 at Windells, would it be corny to stay there anyway? Not tryin to hate on the camp, it's just that every picture I see, the kids all look about 12-16.

And if we got a condo, would that be missing a lot of the experience at Windells? I figure if we have the car, we go back and do the activities like the trampoline and foam pits until everything is done at night anyway, right? Or is that not how day camp works?

And finally, going back to the age thing, there would be groups of 17-19 year olds or whatever skiing & getting coached right? It's not 90% young kids?

And just to add to this, I found this on the Windells FAQ:

What age are your campers?

At overnight camp, ages range from 8-17 years old. Adult camps start at age 18. Most campers are 13-16. Day campers can begin as young as age four. Shaun White began coming to Windells at the young age of six.

If you want to save money cut windells out of the picture. take the breeze bus from the airport ($25 bucks) to gov'y. Bring a tent and camp in the woods. You don't need a car in gov't, it is very easy to hitch up and down the access road to timberline. If you go early in the summer public park is better then windells.

i had a buddy who went to windells till he was like 16 or 17 then after that he just camped / rented a house and road the public park/ traded digging work for riding on other parks.

Campers can be over 18 and still stay in the normal cabins.  My friend was 18 and I was 17 over this past summer, and we both stayed in the road house.  He was treated like a normal camper.  Being over 18 just gives you the opportunity to stay as an adult camper, which from what I saw is way better, considering you can leave at your choosing, you go to a sushi dinner, and there's no real steadfast rules like there are for the minor campers.

I recommend going as an adult camper if you're over 18, your friends will still be there, and you can go across the street to where they're staying whenever you want.

Being 19 at Windells won't be a big deal, there were straight up adults there last time.  The only thing I'd be worried about is the 14 and 15 year olds showing you up on the level 1 jump haha

really the public park was better? i've never heard that the public park was better than windells at any point. what did they have set up that was better? how is the coaching, compared to people like wallisch, moxham, etc. at windells?

also i'm talking about going after july 4th, so the public park wouldn't even touch windells, would it?

i guess this sounds like in interesting way to do it, it's just that i've had windells & all of the extras like the tramps and foam pits and stuff in my head for so long that i might feel like i'd be missing out if i just went for the public park

I  have no idea about early summer, but I was there for session 6, and the only thing worth riding in the public park was the pipe (only nice since it was so soft), and a few boxes.  They only had two jumps, both unhittable for the shit snow conditions.

dude.... c'mon. Let's see you set up the park every morning by time the mountain is open. It is actually very very beneficial to take some "warm up" laps before hucking yourself in the Windells park, they don't open right away for that very reason.
That being said,

A 16 year old and 19 year old could have a great time at camp together. The 19 year old COULD stay at the "adult house" (which is across the street from Windells campus and the younger kids) or you COULD stay with your cousin at camp if you don't mind missing out on "adult activities" I honestly wouldn't suggest staying in a condo or hotel, because just as you said, driving back and forth to camp and to the Hill every day would kinda suck.
It's up to you, but i would also suggest paying the full price and staying at Camp, you should do the "adult" thing, you'll still spend plenty of time with your cousin and you will most likely still be in the same Ski Group if you so desire.

im planning on going to Windells this summer and my friend has a house like 15 minutes away...but everyone that's gone has told me that staying there is so sick and its much less of a pain in the ass with no driving or car worries. im 18 so ill be in the adult part of it, maybe ill see you up there, super stoked on going

1 more question tho, do skiers and snowboarders stay around in the same area of cabins? my cousin is a snowboarder

i was in a cabin with 4 snowboarders and 4 skiers. theres no segregation haha.

this summer i stayed at the road house and it was pretty dope.  i was 17 and all the other kids were around there too.  i highly suggest you stay at the camp as the adult camper.  they got a hottub which i would have died for after skiing all day. 

also there are pretty few rules if any at all for the adult camp.  a couple times when i hoped on the last bus and we had to pick up the adults there were beer bottles and shit all around the hot tub.  sure would have been a fun time.  and you can just chill around the camp with your friend whenever you want then walk across the street and chill with the adults whenever.

there's plenty of older guys and they're all chill. u guys get to stay in the road house across the street with like the pool table and stuff. u'll have tons of fun. if u have the chance to go, then go. best time of my life.

i would definatly reccomend staying in the windells campus, not a condo. Its so much easier to get everywhere and such. when i was there it seemed pretty even between older and younger kids, and the snowboarders hung out with skiers.

Go for the camp.  I'm 23 and still love going to the foam pit, tramp, and the skate park.  Plus you have rides, tickets, large amounts of food, and fun stuff to do.

i went this summer for the first time and i was under the impression that all the campers were under 18, but im pretty sure the adults had the most fun.

adult camp is the sickest. you can do all the same stuff everyone else at camp does and you have the option of doing outside of camp adult activities whcih involve going out at night to portland and what not. so if you want you can just hang out at camp all evening with your friend and do all the normal camp stuff and then go to your house.  not to mention less people in your house and less little kids running around at night bothering you.  go to camp. its definitely ill.

anybody know which one is usually better? i'm assuming they're about the same but i'm not sure

they are pretty much the same, depending on the team/group that is featured that week it will be a little different but they are all super fun anyway. i think a lot of nsers go session 4

dude im in the same place. ive never been to windells before, and i turn 18 in june, so its like 2 weeks before i go. i called and talked to them and they said:

-yes you can do either adults or kids camp
-theyre basically the same thing
-adults still get to do the goofy activities and prize throw aways and stuff
-adults also get to go out, but if youre 19 youre "not gonna be able" to go to bars and stuff
-no matter what camp you choose you'll mostly likely ski with adults and kids

^so basically i just repeated what everyone else said, making my post redundant

also i tried to get him to recommend one camp over the other but he wouldn't really do that.

i think im gonna do the kids camp cuz i don't wanna be the tool from the adult camp that hung out in the kids dorms cuz he didnt go out to a bar that night

If your 19 go to coc or momentum  in whistler 19 is the drinking age in canada and drinking + whistler= Best time of your life.

But i would go to the windells campus if your just gonna go to windells the campus is so fun especially if you skate or bike or anything like that.

O and they reshape the park in session 5 or 6 beacause thats when the snow really starts melting but if you go anywhere past 5 its gonna be 95 and bluebird every day on the hill. and last year when they reshaped they made it so only the jumps had a rope tow and you had to hike the rails.
