Why all the hate on Jon Olsson?

There isn't a ton of it but people love to make fun of him about his trick names even though he's always been ahead of his time when it comes to big air and revolutionizing the sport.

But this is exactly my point, although he may not be at the forefront of free-skiing, he is at a point where he can really help the sport progress beyond just the same old urban edits of some variation of a kink rail, so I don't understand why he is scrutinized as a pussy rather than hailed as a person who is taking the sport in the right direction which is taking traditional tricks and making them awesome rather than turning our sport into the god damn ariels of the Olympics or turning us into some BS of pure urban.

I feel that Jon Olsson is a great thing for the freeskiing industry. He started a competition unlike anything else on the planet and it brings a TON of great attention to skiing in general. I also think that he has been a very large and important part of the forming of the freeskiing scene in Europe. I believe that even though he thinks up gay names for his tricks they're still fucking amazing and I am always shocked when I see him stomp a new one.

Secondly I think that those "same old urban edits" are just as needed in skiing as well. Casabon, Parry, Wallisch, Wesson, asian_allen, ect. are just as revolutionary and influential/necessary in the progression of freeskiing as Jon.

i just reckon when people are the top athletes in their given sport there are always going to people hating .... Also alot of people on NS think wallisch is the greatest guy ever and if your not wearing XXL t - shirt your not cool, which is the biggest load of shit I've ever heard.

His tricks actually make you stop, and replay the video to see what the fuck he just did. I don't get that with the others tbh.

Because as he said himself lately, he complains too much.

He dropped out of X Games 2 years in a row saying that the setups were too sketchy.

And this year's big air that he said was a bad jump was the jump that saw most new tricks in a short amount of time ever.

you're right, not quite the same. so i guess i somewhat misspoke. Allen's urban might not be on the same level as their's, but I would say in terms of revolutionary park tricks, he's just as influential if not more compared to them.

The jump wasn't poorly built according to the riders since Jon was the only one complaining about it, even Jacob Wester enjoyed it.

And as I said, the jump saw a whole lot of new tricks, actually 4 in 60 minutes, you don't see that shit go down at breck everyday.

The guy has done a lot for skiing but he should simply complain less and be more positive.

He dresses like someone in his tax bracket.  He is one of the few individuals in the industry that carries himself like a true professional.  He is a skier but he's also a businessman and people don't take you seriously if you are wearing tall tees and sweats.

I don't know, maybe Im way off but I just feel like a lot of people write him off because he doesn't wear 6x tall tee's and he chooses to focus on racing rather than urbans. I personally think its cool that he chooses to freeski and race.

Agreed.  That shit's funny! 

Jon should have statues made for him.  The guy still kills it.  He is so creative when it comes to building jumps and he has had a huge impact on the way stuff is being built all over.  The super sessions have turned skiing into high art, and it takes some brilliance to come up with something like that and pull it off.  If he wants to call his next double the "Swirling Douche"; I'm fine with that.  IMO he's earned it.

PS - Asian Allen is the shit.  I'm glad he is getting well deserved props in this thread.  I love the stuff he is doing on rails.  I'm sure Andy and Will respect the crap out of some of the stuff he's doing.
