Final cut transitions = fail

ok, working with 960p footy shot on a GoPro HD. i have a macbook pro and i'm using final cut pro 6. all i'm trying to do is make simple title overlays using the text tool within FCP and a few crossfades and dip to black transitions here and there, nothing really technical at all. i've done this sorta stuff before plenty of times with no issues, but for some reason when i go to export to quicktime, anywhere i'm using a title or a transition between clips, it renders out either really pixelated (aka quarter-inch sized blocks of color), the stutters, or the video just greenscreens for the duration of the transition. anyone have any ideas what's going on here? the gopro is gonna be almost useless if i can't even edit video.

p.s. please do not suggest using imovie. i hate it with a fiery passion, and plan to start playing around with more advanced features of FCP that are not available in iMovie. i never really had issues like this using premiere on my PC, so what gives?

try using keyframes with the opacity and such instead of preset transitions? also like mr heath said, make sure it was rendered.

Do you have a bootlegged version of FCP?

I have seen tons of compression problems when people have bootlegged copies of it. I dont know if thats just ironic or what, but that could be one minor glitch if its a downloaded version.

Also, how much are you compressing this video?

Here is your problem. I helped out tons of people on FCP at my school and they were always forgetting the rendering.

for rendering, do you mean command + r? i did that to preview render it, did i miss a step for another final render or something? it's an education license, not that that should make a difference. and thanks for the noob comments; i'll be the first to admit i don't know final cut nearly as well as i knew premiere when i was using that.

Make sure to select every option in your render selection. Go to sequence > rending(or something similar) and then where it shows apple+r make sure everything is selected so that when you do apple+r it renders everything.

just an update, if anyone cares...

it had nothing to do with the transitions themselves or rendering settings. i was shooting in 960p (1280x960, wtf?) on the go pro, which is 4:3 HD. final cut doesn't like this format as an export. when i exported to quicktime, i used 'current settings' or whatever, so it was trying to output something it doesnt have a codec for, or something like that. i had my friend who works for apple on the final cut team screenshare and help me address the issues. all i had to do was set the project to render 16:9 with letterboxing or whatever turned on and it rendered everything out no problem.

here's the final product, i know the editing's not the best, but the skiing sure was fun.
