hey, im 5'11" and i can jump 5'8" but i need to get 5'10" to make states. Does anyone high jump who can give me any tips on how to get the extra 2 inches?
Don't slow down at all while running because that speed turns into all the momentum you need to get over the jump and arch your back really good, tuck your neck into your chest, and kick your butt out so your legs dont hit the bar
take long strides right before you jump at full speed to get more vertical, short choppy steps will easily shorten your max height by a couple inches. you gotta be relaxed with long strides to get the best transfer of energy
I use this to get the last inch or two for dunks so I assume it would work the same for high jump
That seems like a super low qualifying height for states. What year are you and what state are you in? The best jumper on my team right now jumps 6'10" and he's a freshman. It's fucking INSANE. I'm in college though.
Oh and also learn how to heel pop your penultimate step. Step flat footed on the step before your takeoff. It makes your body go rigid and sort of pre-loads your body so that you're already going up when you plant your takeoff foot. It's the same deal as in pole vault. It takes A LOT of time and practice to get right, but once you do, you'll see so much improvement.
take this pre workout supplement called Jack3d. I take it before i work out and before basketball games, and i can easily dunk it when i usually cant. It doesnt have any bad side affects for me except it kind of leaves a funny taste in my mouth but it gives me a ton of energy and adrenaline. Can be found at GNC and vitamin shoppe. from my perspective it is totally safe
I'm pretty sure a girl at the one school near me did that, and she was able to jump insanely high for a girl, either like 5'2 or 5'4 ? maybe more, i forget but she used to do that weird foot thing i think you are talking about
Yeah, it's super hard to get the timing down and will make you jump lower if you do it wrong, but once you get the rhythm it'll take you to the next level. It's pretty amazing how much it helps. Technique is everything.
look up air alert, promises like 6 inches or some shit on your height. also, jumpsoles can help you gain major muscle in your legs. do you do squats or straight legged deadlifts? definatly some key exercises for muscle building.
