Final cut runs on PCs too. I guess PC's blow because they support .AVI files and Games. ... off topic, I digress.
Its been said before, but it holds true ... use the program you are most comfortable with.
good edits have little to do with the program you use, and much to do with the riders and video quality.
haha thats a rediculous statement. If your into overpaying for a computer that looks good then yea i guess so. Macs are built very well but you could personally make a better product for 1/4th of what they charge. I edit on a desktop that i garrentee would destroy most of your macs. I would like to see your macbook pro's handle 3 hours of 24 mb/s avcHD without breaking a sweat.
And btw, while most of you probably had your parents drop 2000+ on that fancy mac book, i built my quad2core 2.8 gighz (thats four 2.8 processors) pc for under 600.
haha, dont try to bullshit me, im a comptuer science major. Everything about the statement you jsut said is wrong. Four 3.0 gighz cores will always be faster than one 12 gighz(they obviously dont make this) core because of the way programs are written. Video editing programs(and any other program that handles large amounts of data) are written to take advantage of multiple cores by implementing a highly parrell design. By breaking up the computations into multiple 'threads' the program allows each cpu to work on a different tasks.
On the OS/ISA(architecture) side of things, I run a 64 bit system so my processing isn't as limited by slow bus speeds. Vegas has had full support for 64 bit systems for a few years now(since 7?) and premeire as well (CS3 or 4). Im not sure if FC 7 now supports 64 bit but last time i checked it didnt.
Im not saying PC's are awesome. Im not saying Macs suck. I thought about doing a duel boot system with Mac and Windows but in the end i know i would end up doing all my work in windows because im used to the system and am more productive with it.
Premiere Pro is a good program
FCP is also good
Vegas is good becuase it is cheap, but lacks some features of FCP and Premiere Pro.
All of those can edit HD footage without a problem.
I just built a computer with a
core i7 2.67 ghz processor
nvidida quadro 1800fx with Elemental Accelerator (768 MB)
5 - 1TB Hitachi dries in a Raid 5 Array
12 GB of RAM DDR3
The elemental accelrator helps a lot when you are exporting footage because it puts the process of exporting/compressing the footage all on the GPU so that the CPU can still do its job. Still, however, Premiere Pro by itself cannot read an H.264 MP4 file very easily. You still need to put the video file in a .mov container (not the same as compressing it) for almost ANY movie editing software to read the file easier.
