Booster straps

oh and does any1 no witch one i should get.
 im 4,10 and 85ish pounds

i really want to put booster straps on my 110's but i dont know how to attach them... the straps on the boots already are like made specifically so you cant put boosters on, haha

They do actually work i can't really answer any of the other questions sorry

i find that the stretching helps not only with the shinbang but the rebound of the boot overall.

no just put them above the straps they come with, so it goes around the liner of your boot and not the shell. you can probably just like cut off the straps they come with, although I just strap mine normally. I don' think they really do anything though.

When you're installing the straps on boots with odd original strap mounting I recommend to remove the old strap and rivet the new strap into the boot plastic.  Did this on my solomon gun boots with a non-removable original strap.

you need to undo the screw on your current strap, and replace it with your boosterstrap by putting the screw through it

Let me state for the record  that I am not a professional boot fitter.  Everything I am going to state is through pure experience and experimenting of my own.    Having said that, I've spend so much time in boot shops for ill fitting boots or stance problems, I've learned enough about the process to give a few thoughts on booster straps. 

Some have stated they are unsure exactly where to place the straps.  Should you place them between the tongue of the liner and the shell?  Should you place them on the outside of the shell only?     I have tried them both ways.  And this is where I need to diverge slightly so I can explain myself fully.  I need to talk about something called ramp angle because at least for me this is what caused so much grief.  Ramp angle essentially is the difference in height between your bindings heel piece and toe piece.  Many bindings are setup today with the toe sitting lower than your heel, causing a forward leaning affect when you stand.  Many boots have boot-boards setup with this same ramp angle affect as well.  To compound my ramp angle problems I had a heel lift put under my foot-bed to push me even further forward.  Some people think this is a good thing to get you out of the back seat.  In my case it was too much and when I pressured my boots I ended up collapsing my tongues.  Essentially I was over-flexing my boots.. 

So back to the booster straps.  When I put the booster strap between my tongue and the shell of the boot, it simply pushed my lower leg back and gave me a more upright stance.  While this more upright stance helped me ski  better, I don't believe I was gaining any benefit from the booster strap per say.  Having the strap clamped between the shell and the tongue kept the elastic properties of the strap to function. defeating the purpose of the booster altogether. 

Simply put,  placing the booster strap between the tongue and the shell helped but not fully solved a stance problem I always had.  There are better ways to fix stance issues but that is for another post. 

When placing the strap on the outside of the shell, this brought about another problem.  The strap wasn't wide enough for me to pull fully against the cuff.  Half of the strap covered the cuff and the other half pressed against the tongue that sits slightly above the cuff..  tightening the booster in this manner caused me to sit on the fence a bit.  Sometimes it felt like they worked, and sometimes they didn't seem to work...

Then one day a boot fitter suggested I try using something called a driver plate.  Its essentially a thin  sheet of plastic that follows the shape and length of the tongue of the liner and fits between the tongue and the shell.  This then gave me a way to fully lever the tongue of the boot with the strap without involving the cuff.  Using this driver plate, something interesting happened.  The flex of the boot became more even and smooth.  At the same time I was able to ski with the cuff buckles much more loosely.. That was great as my calves often hurt when buckled down and my circulation I believe was much improved.  For the first time I was able to ski fairly relaxed in my boots and at the same time have extremely good lower leg and foot control.....   If I had some pictures to provide I would.  Please talk to a good boot fitter about drive plates and perhaps you can better understand what I'm writing about.  Ive only used the drive plates one day but my first impressions are one of good enthusiasm. 

So do booster straps help?  I would say yes, incredibly so.  But all of this only works if its setup right.  if your straps arent adding any benefit, think about modifying some other aspects such as your stance, ramp angle etc.  Again talk to a bootfitter.. 

Also please note I mostly only do carved short and medium turns.  I really have no idea if these straps help when doing mogul skiing or powder skiing.  The straps are just another tool to help setup your boots.  everybody is different.  The one thing I will say is don't be afraid to  experiment.   if it works for you thats all that matters.  who cares what it does for anybody else..

think of it this way: when you land with regular power straps its like your shins run into a brick wall, with booster straps its like your running into a really dense foam wall.

thats interesting, ive never heard that they reduce shinbang, i thought they were for to help stiffen a boot.

if your calf is too thin for the boot and a booster strap snugs up that space, or there is some slop between the liner, shell, and calf when flexed, i would say they do help with shinbang. just sayin

Just got these. Because I'm tall my tibia is very long and my calf muscle sits above the boot giving me shin bang since boots arent made with tall people in mind. In terms of using them effectively, what have you found that works best? I plan on strapping them around the back of the plastic and inside the plastic on the front

Booster straps most certainly are supposed to help with shin bang.

what I understand, they’re suppose to attach to the back spoiler of the boot like a normal strap, but you run them between the liner and tongue of the boot. Like this

Update, took some getting used but I noticed the difference. I had several moments where I know I would have gotten rough shin bang before and it didnt happen with these

World Cup straps saved my 4 year Langes, one of the best investments in skiing you can do for yourself

Old thread and dub post but i basically replaced the stock straps that come with langes that wrap around the top of the shell just above my first buckles and below the liner cuff and they gave my boots just enough juice to carry on longer. Shinbangs never been my issue due to how I ski I guess but biggest takeaway is the little extra control and assitance you get with staying on top of the skis in charging mode. It made snapping in and out of turns and hopping all over a bit easier

I’ve got a pair that I’ve been using for about 3-4 years. It seems like they aren’t very stiff anymore as well as when I cinch them down they don’t actually stay tight. I end up tightening the strap every run.

Has this happened to anyone or are mine just old and worn
