Cheaper college by a good mountain...

I want to transfer for my last two years by a mountain (east or west, west preferred). I know U of Vermont and Colorado Boulder are $40k a year for out of state. Whats a good school thats not that much out of state with an engineering program?

Colorado School of Mines is a great engineering school, much closer than CU to skiing.  I'm not sure what tuition is like though, but I would recommend checking it out.  I go to the Air Force Academy and Mines was on my list of close-to-home options.

Tuitions $37k
I guess I dont need room and board for either of these but $30k is still too high for me lol. Anywhere that is $20k out of state lol?

sierra nevada college is near tahoe.

western state is like 40mins from crested butte

i think university of wyoming might be in your price range.

its kinda near jackson

or go ski bum for a year, taken off of college and pay taxes.

I'm not sure how good the engineering program is at the University of Utah but I've heard out of state tuition is pretty cheap and after one year of residence its like $6000 a semester for instate. Not to mention super close to skiing and cheap rent in Salt Lake City.

How long do you have to live in a state to be considered "in-state"?

a year, but it can be a huge pain in the ass to do.

you have to be COMPLETELY independent  of your parents, and you have to be able to prove it.

that sucks. i was going to say just buy a P.O box......or in this case maybe a year before you plan on moving.

my method of trying to avoid out of state tuition would be that combined with never mentioning anything about ever being from another state.

i suppose diff. schools have diff rules.

Well more like Montana State University.  U.M. is in Missoula which has Snowbowl (not a really a great mountain) but U.M. is a 2 or 3 hour drive from a bunch of sick resorts like Big Mountain, Big Sky and Bridger.  MSU on the other hand is in Bozeman MT, Bozeman is like a 30 minutes drive to Big Sky and Bridger.  Overall MSU is a much better place to go for skiing.


for skiing MSU > UM...

It's very difficult to gain in state status when you are from out of state. The rules are pretty much the same at every school, and you can't get around them.

plus msu is one of the top engineering schools. and relatively cheep. from your definition, you want to check into msu.

University of Utah has a decent engineering program and is cheap.  I think out of state was $16,000 for me the first year and now in state is about $5000 a year.

Don't forget that it is twice as easy to get out of state scholarships than in-state. Look into that for each college your going to

Take a look at South Dakota school of mines its somewhat close to jackson and terry peak is close just a small place with some good skiing. tuition is about 14 to 15 k a year out of state and has a great engineering program.

MSU Bozeman is very cheap if you do somewhat well on your ACT/SAT

I live in Minnesota and attending MSU Bozeman will be cheaper for me than attending the Univerisity of Minnesota

Yeah I got a 32 on my ACT... But I dont have a 3.4 that you need for those scholarships. I have a 3.8 in my engineering school but my freshman year a couple years ago was more of a party year so my cumulative is only 3.0 now
