Eh, it sounds good but being more of a rock fan really outside of Eminem, Mos Def, and one or two others here or there I don't listen to much hip hop or rap really so my opinion probably isn't that good.

jea, 1983 blows my mind everytime. and i never delved too deep in to dosh but just the fact that people know who he is excites me.

also to any other readers of this thread who know hip hop, which every body does in their own mind, i have mixed feelings about the art form. i was first introduced properly (outside of swollen members lol) by wu tang, Biggie, and more memorably qwel/ typical cats. idk your feelings on teh cats and such but nowadays, i'm only feelin DOOM, i've tried to branch into genres that my friends likes i.e. atmosphere, brotha ali, macklemore, etc. and it's not that i don't like or have respect for their shiii, but just not on the same level as DOOM i guess. so what or who should i be looking at, because i don't want to write off hip hop.

 BUT, wait, there is ONE song i have heard that i respected him a little cause he was speaking real. It surprised me and confused me. It was Hollywood Divorce with Outkast.

I understand what you're saying, he does put out a negative message. However, if you look at it from another light, he's telling the youth, you work hard, you spend everyday working your ass off the way he does, you're gonna be successful. That's what i hear when i listen to Lil Wayne.


To me, if you're stupid enough to take what someone says to heart and follow it, then you deserve the repercussions of your actions.

so what your saying is that any rapper that makes alot of songs and has alot of studio time is automatically doing it for the money? so if a rapper that hasnt made shit that makes a thousand songs and just sits in the studio all day rapping is doing it for the money? there just trying to make it big like lil wayne and lil wayne is doing what he obviously loves to do otherwise he wouldnt make all the underground albums and make 1000 songs in a couple years

they didn't rape the genre. not much music coming out that i enjoy these days anyway. i have my favorites and constantly will be coming back to them to listen again and again. my preferences would be for the 90s new york east coast sound. i am all for the intellectual rap, but it's not what i am going to play when i am trying to relax on the weekend. i used to be all about it, but it got old. i like something in between wayne and can ox now. that's why all your favorite artists are around making music now. if you asked them who their biggest influences were or their favorite group was, i guarantee that theyd name someone from the early-mid 90s. i have a solid enough base of hip-hop favorites that i don't need to take the super indignant underground head line every time that lil wayne comes up in a discussion. the fact that anyone would get so pissed off about him tells me that you don't listen to that much hip-hop at all. b/c if you did, i doubt it would bother you so much. your artists are doing their thing and wayne is definitely doing his. hes not going to affect the fans of rhymesayers or def jux, etc. and kids are going to hear about all the evils wayne raps about one way or another. sheltering them from all of that is not helpful in the long run. i am curious though as to who your top ten artists are.

Maybe instead of trying to change the world you could change yourself and lead by example, right? But throwing your opinions around is alot of fun isnt it.

People can think what they want, and that holds true to you and to people you think are idiots for listening to what they want to.




My main point is you are going to have a long road ahead of you if you want to stand up against everything you think is wrong. Especially music.

i am in your camp for sure. slimbruddah is not some kind of martyr for standing up against commercial hip-hop like he thinks he is and wants to be. once you turn 20, you realize that it's impossible to do and you're going to be miserable attempting that b/c you will always be on the fringes looking in. not saying you have to agree with or like that type of music but you aren't going to change it and sound like a broken record every time you bring up that whole point. it's mad annoying and preachy. hip-hop is still alive and well despite artists like wayne. the classics will never die and as long as you are into them, hip-hop is just fine.
