Akai APC40 or Launchpad & Traktor Kontrol or Launchpad & Nocturn +K

I currently have an Ableton Launchpad and am planning on upgrading to an Akai APC40, however I've heard mixed opinions on the APC40 and I've heard many people say Launchpad and Nokturn is better. Also, I like Traktor Kontrol because I'll be able to program it to Ableton and use it with the launchpad as well as use it on TRAKTOR.

So what do you think is the best setup?

I havn't actually used launchpad yet, but i've had the apc for about a month now and i love it. It depends what you wanna use it for. Obviously launchpad has the advantage of being a lot more portable so for live djing, this might be your better choice. However the effects knobs and faders on the apc make it a really fun and useful controller for both production and djing. Go down to your local dealer and have a play around with all of them to see which you prefer the feel of. Hope this helps.

hey man I have the apc40 and I love the thing. the only complaints i could possibly have is that firstly, its kind of big but thats not a huge deal. The thing is fricken solid as hell also. The only other thing i wish was a little different is that by using the track select buttons you can't control effects on multiple channels at once. Other than that I absolutely love my apc

That's what I figured... I've brought my launchpad with me everywhere over break from vacation in colorado to the library in between classes, except I feel that with the launchpad I feel extremely limited because not having any knobs or faders.

I mean, the basic point of this thread was that i need to add more knobs and faders to my set up and I wanted to know which was the best route to go.

check out the UC-33, my buddy runs launchpad with the UC-33 which is pretty sweet

yeh, and then if you feel like really getting technical get max for live and your apc or launchpad becomes fucking unstoppable.

I wouldn't recommend going to the APC, as your essentially decreasing your grid for a few knobs and faders. Since you have the launchpad already, just snag one of those midi controllers your talking about. I don't think I'd go for the traktor one, I like faders and that doesn't have any. I would go with the UC-33 and the Launchpad. Lots of knobs and faders to mess with.

taking a look at the uc-33 now. Is it easy to assign controls to it with Ableton? As in, it is as simple as using the midi button that highlights everything then clicking and assigning like you do with the launchpad?

Thats the glory with ableton, any midi controller is easy to set up. Like you said, just simply click the midi button, then what you need to control, and then move the knob or fader you want to assign it to.
