I was thinking over who I thought would win the pipe as I was eating lunch just now. I thought: dumont's runs really haven't changed much at all, and the inclusion of a whiskey (which has now been around for something like 3 years) doesn't really seem to cut it, so I thought it would be somebody like xavier, riddle, or somebody along those lines. After that crash (which looked BRUTAL, but not the worst ever) my thoughts are only exacerbated. Nice he skied away, but damn.

for events maybe not ideal, but for training and regular parks might not be such a bad idea...

but as mentioned earlier, you'll bounce off and fall down to the flat bed of the pipe and you'll die... :)

i see where your coming from but as far as i can see there are a few problems with it

couldn't do one hits ...ie dropping in halfway, i don't often ride pipe but when i try new stuff i like being able to hike up a few feet for a one hit.

would be a pain to build, sure it wouldn't be a big deal for aspen, but alot of hills cant afford crazy machines just to put walls on their decks.

although to sorta modify your idea... why dont bigger hills making "training pipes" where instead of snow theres foam crash mats... im sure something like that could even help progress the sport because you could try crazier shit on it

or you could just have mats on the side at an angle like that. it would collapse a bit so you wouldnt bounce out into the middle of the pipe, and gapers wouldnt be able to ski down it and ruin the lip

Press and people wouldn't be able to stand on that with camera equipment too well. With a few mods, that would probably be a pretty good idea. Might only work well for some falls though, I could see shit hitting the fan pretty quick on something like that.

Dumonts fall looked horrible. Hope he's still in it.

There would be no way to maintain a pipe like that. Plus it would take twice as much snow. I feel like some of the safety leaning features actually make for more injuries. People are learning tricks and bringing them to snow before they are really ready.

Because the shape of that pipe would be un-groomable.  you couldn't maintain snow on the rolled deck, you would have people sliding into the pipe from the top instead of there being a clearly maintained "deck" to walk/ski/board down, it would add another 300,000 bucks to the cost of building the pipe with the additional snow, the zaugg attatchment would be massive and most likely have a tendancy to break with that much pressure on the front hydros plus just the weight of it pulling on itself, and it just plain looks stupid.

you have to remember that the vert of the pipe is actually cut with a chain saw... having that roll over like that would make it impossible for somone to walk down the deck and cut the vert... and the dude skied away... he will be fine... now i do agree pipe is not the safest disaplin but very few of us go that big and hes a PROFESIONAL he gets paid to lay his body on the line..
pipes are better built, better maintained, and bigger then they ever have been.
people are bound to go big and get hurt but theres just something about throwing a cork 9 in the pipe and knowing that on foot to my right and im not gunna ski out that makes it such a rush.

That'd be sick if they made that with some like plastic stuff that was see through. Wouldn't hurt as much when you fall, but you could still (kind of) see through.

It isn't jet about the technology- a Poe needs a lot of snow as it s. Addng walls like that wouldn't be feasable unless the pipe was in a natural gulley.
