Going to bird/alta april 2 through the 5th, have some questions

Being a skier from the midwest, Indiana to be specific, I naturally have some questions.

1. Whats the weather usually like the first week of april? Im staying in sandy right near the pass that gets to bird/alta.

2. what time does the pass usually open?

3. skis, im thinking of skiing groomers along with glades and bowls, so what would be a wise ski choice? i would like to try hellbents, are those alright for the groomers? any suggestions?

4. what runs are geared toward easier skiers (my pops) yet still have good pow?

weather should be nice, pray for snow at that point as it can still come in bunches, but can be dry. if it snows, LCC will open sometime between 8-10 in the morning usually, if not just go for it but have something with 4wd/snow tires. as for skis, i seriously hope you aren't coming here for the groomers. gotamas sound like they'd be good for you, as do obsetheds or even s7's/jj's.

i am skiing as much pow and chutes/glades as possible, but my dad is very stubborn and does not want to ski the 'hard runs' but expects to find good pow on blue runs.

Probably not gonna get much pow, get ready to shred groomers and sunbaked snow all day. I'd almost suggest going to PC instead, then there will be alot more easier runs for you pops.

yea i have tried and tried to convince him about this. but alas, he takes the shop tech from ohios word and not the kid who knows more about skiing and skiing related subjects than a physics professor knows about physics. maybe ill get out there for a day

if your dad skis anything like my dad. he is going to get shat on by snowbird.

go to brighton, he will have much more fun there.

Hey not to totally hijack this thread here but whats the Wasatch range like in early March?

Like Feb 28th thru March 5th?

Also, OP, I am not from SLC. I am not an expert on SLC. But I did spend 10 days there on vacation doing it on a budget and shit. I might have some helpful hints, but the SLC locals really know whats up.

Well if you came on these dates last year you would have skied the last 3 or 4 days of a storm cycle that I believe dropped 13 feet in 13 days.  So there is some hope for snow.
