So my friend took his life last night...

My best friend from high school took his life last night.  I don't really know why.  I saw him a week ago and we were talking about getting jobs as fly fishing guides over the summer.  I got his ski pass so i can hang it from my mirror.  Im quite depressed now and I have so many unanswered questions.  Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this?  I go on binges of thinking of my good memories and then serious times of depression. RIP Timmy

I'm really sorry for your loss man. It's a really hard thing to lose freinds who are close to you, or even just your age especially to suicide. one of my freinds just recentley took his life as well and another of my freinds took their life about a year ago. theres really no way to deal with it, death is one of those things we're going to spend our whole lives trying to learn to deal with and never will until we die. Its just so sad when someone young decides to take their life, and you can't do anything about it. Tough place to be in but i've been there man. You should go spend some time with other freinds who knew him, or maybe go spend some time with his parents, thats what I did alot during those times.

I'm sending as much positive energy to you as I possibly can..... if you are having trouble dealing with it, talk to someone. From a similar experience of my own, I think talking is the greatest therapy. I think I can speak for everyone and say we're all here to back you, though.

My best friend from high school killed himself almost four years ago.    To this day if "rock on " comes on the radio i will most likely cry.  With time it gets easier but you will always miss him.  Do not blame yourself  and do not spend too much time thinking of what you could have done differently or why they did it. This only makes things harder and made me more sad when i thought about those things. For the next few week i would suggest surrounding yourself with close friends and family and try to talk about your best memories of time you spent with him .  When my friend killed himslef it was the hardest time in my life.  I almost failed out college and i started to drink even more then before.  Be strong and you will make it through this.

My best friend from elementary school died last year from drowning. I still miss him like crazy and as I write this I'm tearing up. Fact of the matter is, it's really really helpful to have someone to talk to about it, whether it be an adult or another mutual friend. Chin up man, it'll be hard but you can do it.

Also, I started having a recurring dream with him in it. I went and saw a therapist. So if you're feeling super bummed about it, or just want someone to talk to that isn't your parents..ask your parents about a therapist. Sounds gay but it really works.

+vibes man, thats all i can really give. Just ski with friends, be with people you care about and try to do as much living as you can for him. After a friend of mine passed away from cancer ive kept the prayer card in my wallet since his wake, although im not religious in the slightest. If you think something like that would help you do it, ski with his pass or anything else you can think of. I'll keep your buddy in mind during my next run.

If this happend to me i would just go ski for the day. Preferably with some friends. take his pass with you and throw down.

nothing better to get you into that zone then skiing, specially with kids who are all in the same boat as you.

vibes to you and his friends and family, dealing with that can be rough. I had to deal with that about two years ago, and there's gonna be alot of questions that you have that can't be answered,  but don't be afraid to talk about it with someone, that's what i found helps alot.

second post in this thread. i know. but I just want you to know that when it comes to things like this, most anyone can understand and help offer a perspective that may help or just a listening ear and that is crucial.
fuck all that boys dont cry bullshit, the one thing that felt better than anything else after each of my freinds passings was to just cry. get together with freinds who care and talk about it and if you have to just cry you'll feel so much better.  & don't be ashamed to ask for help if you feel like you need it. I was really fucked up after my freind died in a car accident & pretty much said fuck life and went into a really dark place. I was scared to ask my parents for help or anyone for that matter and that really fucked my shit all up. so yeah, stay up man.

One thing you need to remember is that WHY he did it shouldn't matter to you.  It won't change how you feel about the situation so don't worry about it.  I was in the same place a few years back and this was the toughest part for me.  When I did move past not knowing why I was able to move on.

go hang out with his buddies, even if you werent tight with them, and talk. thats really all you can do now..if you need help, you've got your family members, friends, therapists (I had to use one), everyone here, and dont be afraid to confide in anyone, nobody will think you're weak

hey man i know somewhat how you feel my friend who was basicly a little sister to me this summer didnt take her life but she lost it, and its one of those things where friends are the best medicine for this sort of thing, where its not gonna get easier for a while, but memories last a life time. sorry to hear about that. +vibes man i feel ya

Last week one of my diving buddies had a lethal diving accident, he did not survive...
Best way to cope with it is to be with other people, talk about it, let your emotions go, think of all the good times you had with him.
Don't try to forget about it, just learn to accept it and remember your friend as a good friend, as long as you have good memories of him he won't be gone ...
