A quick word on blocking ads

So it's about time I get myself a laptop. I'm going to be travelling next year and need something to take with me.
What I'm looking for: A strong laptop (lasts a long time, good operation, just a good laptop in general), good media editing (video and picture, I will be doing a video blog of my travels and will require quick, easy editing software but also good enough quality to make movies in the future, same goes for pictures. I'd like to become a photograpger or videographer possibly. And then i'm looking for good internet, ease of use, and all that jazz. Good storage options ie external hard drive compatibilitly. I'm not a computer expert so this is why I ask for help.
Oviously I lean towards a mac. I've used macs all throughout school, plain and simple they are nice, they have good video editing software, good reputations etc. Plus some programs at University require a mac. But I'd like to keep my options open, reading through threads on here I've seen others suggest a Dell XPS.
If I were to get a Mac it would be a pro either 15, or 17 inch for reference.
So what do you have to say? Suggestions?
