I know that this is a definate repost but idc. Im leaving for aspen on thursday and i have bad shin bang. I need to know i can do so that my trip is awesome and i dont have to worry about my shins. Please give some advice.
I have fulltilts and yes landing backseat is a big problem of mine. But im lookin for something i can do to get rid of it in a few days so i can ski comfortably. Right now im just icing and relaxing
Get socks that dont grab your skin and or your boot. the ripping of the muscle under your skin is a problem. get some socks that are like the underarmor... and tighten your boots and put your strap under the plastic, you should not get any more shing bang and you should heal over a few days time... oh and DO NOT SKI / LAND IN THE BACK SEAT!!!
Drink lots of water, shin bang is caused from a build up of lactic acid in your shins because when you land back seat or undershoot a jump little tiny cracks form in your shin which your body sends lactic acid to fill or something like that, drinking lots of water thins out that lactic acid and eases the pain. Don't drown yourself though.
what i do which has worked out very nice and i have had no shinbang since is cut the round bottom out of huggies(the things you put on a cold drinks)then cut up the seam and there you go,shin pads that work perfect
advil really helps because it reduces inflammation take advil a couple times a day before you go on your trip. also ice your shins and do this for at least a half an hour or until they are numb, then rub firmly from the top of your shin to your ankle do this for about 5 mins on each shin in a downward motion
put the power strap inside the shell around the liner. this will close the gap between your shin and liner which is a major cause of shinbang. i also use the beer coozys and fold them flat agains my shin inside the liner and it works wonders. both of those things combined should pretty much solve the problem.
just curious, what exactly does the rubbing downward do? I got terrible shin bang 2 weekends ago so I'm hoping it will heal up by this weekend. but when I tried my boots on 2 days ago it hurt to put any pressure on my shins.
never heard of the "booster" strap before... but when I look it up its just basically another velcro strap you can put around your boots... right? ... does this really help? Because I have one on the top of my boots... and that doesnt do anything.... i get really bad shin bang on the sides of my shins more then the front... i have really stiff boots... which i like.. but now I am reconsidering... help!! the only days I can go skiing is 4 days in a row.. and i usually take the 4th day off cause my legs hurt so bad!
Booster straps are great - I wouldn't ride without them now. I think Aspercreme (topical anti-inflamatory creme) is worth a try, too. Taking too much ibuprofen can be bad for the stomach, so putting the lotion on the skin keeps me from getting the hose again.
rubbing downward is more beneficial because it has to do with the way your blood circulates through your body/legs... you pushing blood away from your heart ( more natural) but seriously rub your shins it helps even if they hurt to much to touch still do it...
get some blue medical tape, it doesnt stick to your skin but somehow to each other, wrapo it around your shin, take a pair of thick socks and pull them over the tape. I did that and it hels A LOT, only a bit of shinbanging if i land extrem backseated or after a whol;e week.
ya hate to say this but they probly arent worth the money..?. mine did minimal help well i guess they did a little but new boots helped more. im blaming it on the bootfitter i went to first for giving me the wrong size boots.
i had so much pain and so many problems with my new boots this season that I went back in and actually talked to a fitter who know what was up.... basically my first problem was i bought boots that were to stiff for me... i couldnt flex them properly... second when the pain got worse i loosened them up.. which is actually worse for your shins cause they move around more.... I have been wearing my old boots and dont even have 1/2 as much pain... so it is the boots... get a good boot fitter, a new pair a boots, rest a couple of days and your pain will go away!!!!
when i say buckle your boots, i mean buckle 'em tight.
no need to get hostile dude. theres a reason you have shinbang, you land backseat and your boots arent tight enough.
check out a Booster Strap, this is a MUST.

i got shin splints which is basically the same thing but worse. i got it from like a week of skiing than i ran a lot to and i also tramped a bunch which started to fuck up my shins. the best thing to do is stay off them for awhile. i also iced them like every night. since your getting them from skiing get intuition liners or a booster strap. also just try to land with your weight forward when your skiing.
