Best Camera to film Snowboarding and Skateboarding

$2500 or under new before tax. In general what is the best camera, when you post say if it is over or under the limit. I was thinking Sony HDR FX7

FX7 wouldn't be to bad or mebay a Canon XHA1 ,Iv'e seen some really good hmc40.
I would go with the A1 the footage is just so clear and you can get a pretty wide fisheye for it.

I'd suggest getting a HDR-SR12 Sony camera type thing. They're not top of the line with a built on handel and everything. But if your buying a professional cam your gonna pay a lot of money for a fisheye lens, which i must say is essential for any extreme sport. And you can buy nice handles for 30 bucks off amazon.com

Currently I have a sony DCRHC52. Cant beat tape quality. Shits tight, homemade handle and all. Just looking for something a little more professional because I want to make a career around this.

I just looked into fisheye lenses for you on the FX7. The cheapest one is 500 and the most expensive is 1200. And for an HD one its gonna cost you like 700 cheapest

omg all of you kids are so retarted... you ccant just get an amazing camera right off the bat because your not going to know how to do anything.. and at that point youd be better off with filming it with a cell phone... start off small and work your way up.

get an hv30 and go from there

Cameras aren't these complicated devices to learn. If you have the money to buy a top of the line camera then do it! Buy it and their is the manual and google that can answer any question you have. If you but each camera and work your way up it's just going to cost you a lot more money....
Don't listen to this guy just go for the camera you can afford and is the best.

that website is literally shit. If you want to learn about buying and using outdated cameras then go ahead. After all, LCD screens are for pussies, a VX1000 would be perfect.


but really, if you like grainy and outdated footage, then they could help you. Just don't expect any of us to like it.

I didn't tell him to go but a vx1 or an older SD camera. A lot of the users on skateperception use hvx's and hmc's it's just another source of information for this guy to find the camera that best fits his needs.

i'd say get an hv30 with a .3 opteka fisheye and a jag35mm adaptor for shallow depth of field (which always looks baller)

or straight up buy a HMC150. also you can't go wrong with a DVX but thats SD, not sure how top of the line your tryin to go here but the future is deffinatly in HD

for that price go for an xh a1 i love mine, only step up i would do is to a hpx but thats not happening anytime soon.  You have 3 rings in the front instead of two (so you can controle iris, shutter, focus and zoom right in the front of the camera without using menues) correct me if im wrong but all the panasonics you have to flip through to change the shutter speed?  The colors dont pop like a panasonic which is good and bad.  gives the nice soft feel to the edits which i really like.  For sample footy Look at CS_Films profile, we both use that camera and would both recomend it. 

Oh and we share one wideangle (not fish eye) and there have only been a hand full of times that we really wished we had 2 or a fish eye.  Get a good tripod and your edits will be 200x better then grabbing the fish eye and following people around

there are some real gem posts in here. hmc40 is prob best in your price range. hv30 is a dope starter camera and produces some of the nicest colors i have seen from that level of camera. i personally would stay away from tape and hdd. go avchd with hmc40. the only tape i would use would be with the camera hv30. bad sentence. but please what ever you do dont get hdd

hahahaha i really should have looked up what camera you had before i took the time to post that... just get an hv 30 or something along thoes lines (i know real origonal) if you think your gunna take the time to really learn it then buying a good camera might not be a bad idea, but dont think because you can use that sony you can shoot an hvx and get pro level video

just to add a little to this thread. if you buy a top of the line computer, make sure your computer can handle the footage. HD would suck to edit on an old comp.

hahah this reaction made me go check out the cam... if your upgrading from that i dont think a 2500 dollar cam is necessary, you could get a dope for under 2gs, and check out used or refurbished ones
