yeah i think hating on alta is stale as shit but you gotta give it to this one because A. its pretty creative B. just a good picture in general.

plus the levitation project from which this picture is from is a sking and snowboarding company so its not like its only snowboards hating on this.

i think hate between snowboarders and skiers is lame. i also think making a mountain "exclusive" to either is lame as well.

Alta is a skier only mountain. They they put the money into it, they maintain the lifts and the trails, they run the business. If they want to have a skier only business it's not a big deal.

Snowboarders wouldn't like alta, apparently they used to let snowboards ride there and they would unstrap and hike traverses and ruin them. Alta is a skiers mountain because snowboarders would hate traversing so much.

A lot of my idols are snowboarders, snowboarding is sick, but I would not be very stoked if Alta started allowing snowboarders. Its just not the way its supposed to be I don't think.

The terrain hasn't changed in 20 years.... Snowboarders will still have to hike traverses... still ruin traverses, and still piss of people trying to haul ass on said traverses to get the goods.

You all must be really terrible at skiing traverses because there isn't a single traverse at Alta that requires poles or that a snowboarder couldn't navigate. There are a few sidesteps that would become boot packs but that is never a bad thing, side stepping is retarded and energy inefficient.

Im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that. Supreme bowl, parts of high-t, catherines and ballroom/shoulder are all usually flat/slightly uphill. Snowboarders would not be able to navigate them.

I find it ironic that people on this site (which owes its very existence to snowboarding) dont want them at Alta.

Going around someone on a traverse is not easy, wtf are you talking about? a traverse is a one person wide path along a steep hill, you cant just go around. Now, high-t traverse is much different but id consider that a trail not a "traverse".

It's NOT a big deal that the managment of alta has decided to not let snowboarders ride the lifts. They have their reasons, and all the reasons make sense. That's why when people get so worked up about it (whoever made that image - levitation project??) it just makes them look dumb.

If I was a snowboarder, I would say "wow, it sucks i can't ride alta".

and not "OMG Alta doesn't let us ride there! let's make stickers and post hate on the internet! sabotage stupidity!!!!"

alta had some of the worst flat spots ever i thought of all the utah mountains that i went to. some of the best terrain, but getting back to some lifts would have been a nightmare for some snowboarders.
