BOONE GLO STICKS ARE HERE!

Boone just recently dropped their rockered pow ski for the winter! It's a 185cm 140/118/138 ski with 25/22 rocker. Lightweight sandwich construction model with an eco-friendly bamboo/poplar core.

Probably some of the sickest skis I've seen and once my bindings get in I will definitely give an on-hill review

right now all i have to compare them to is a surface live life 2...and I would say the boone's are just a tad softer than the live lifes..but in comparison to a hellbent..definately stiffer.....They're going to be sick all around with there flex pattern..not noodles but not 2x4s a perfect mix in my opinion...hope that helps out...if you have any other questions shoot me a pm and I'll send you in the right direction!

took them out a few days after the storm..got a few fresh turns and they float on top like Gs!... such a fun ski dropped this on them as well first day out on them

Also rode them around in kings (park city's big park) and they were just as fun as park skis...obviously feel heavier than park skis but way more fun to do floaty tricks like 180s and rodeos...will get more pictures up once it snows more

I love mine. They DESTROY pow and crud, and still shralp groomers pretty decently.

Yeahh no more edge highness. These came out perfectly flat when rollin a truebar across em.

Also, the edges dont come together at the tip anymore, so no chances of edges blowing out at the tip whatsoever. Took a while, but they're dialed in.

ya, there really is nothing eco friendly about the ski industry.
all those cool epoxies and fiberglass that are used to make the skis are just fucking great for the environment. Then take shipping those skis from the factory to their distribution point (where is the factory by the way). and you have a great eco product.

By the use of bamboo as a core...bamboo is a very renewable resource that can grow up to a couple feet within a day w/o the use of chemicals

So really they are just slightly less damaging to the environment then a pair of line skis. The bamboo hardly offsets the rest of the process.

Oh, it's true... you cant really make skis with 100% environmentally friendly materials... at least if you want to make the ski any good to ski on, that is. the edges, base material, and epoxies alone make that

however, the fact that it's bamboo being cut, a grass that grows an inch per day,  and not a tree, which grows an inch per year, is at least a step in the right direction.

come on man I'm stating simple things that are helping move in the right direction... are you really trying to argue with me right now? I'm trying to promote a dope ski that people are stoked on.....I mean when looking at the facts...is bamboo not a more renewable source than trees that grow back wayy slower than bamboo? so using a more renewable source would be eco friendly correct?

anywho...stoked on these skis so fun you can shralp anything!

The bamboo we use in our laminate comes from 60 foot stalks, which still do take a while to grow. Less time than trees, for sure, but its at best only kinda more renewable. Still have to take into account all the glue holding the pieces of laminate together and thats manufacturing and environmental cost, which could be comparable to the energy and destruction of single sheets of pine/popular/whathaveyou. Bamboo is great stuff, I'm just not convinced enough to start touting it as more eco-friendly until I really research it a bit more.

really? I think ours come from like 30 footers or 40 footers, but I cant be 100% on that right now.

nevertheless, we use bamboo more because we believe it's a good material for laminate cores than we do because it's somehow 'eco friendly' or something...

the shipping to get them here really isnt a whole lot different, and the materials surrounding them are all plastics and junk...

so yes. you're absolutely right, only 'kinda' renewable... but kinda is better than not at all, i guess.

Yeah. Our grower is in mexico. Manufacturer is in Canada? I totally forget, really... It's about as close as we could get... it was either that or china...

I think it's about time we all realized that dead hippies are not only a renewable resource, but are perfect materials for ski cores.  Just set out a massive pile of granola and a few bongos out side of the factories and watch core materials literally just show up at your door.  plus hippies either walk or bum rides, which is carbon friendly, and we'd be cleaning up the streets at the same time.

Our bamboo actually gets up to around 80 feet, and does so in only a few months, but it isn't harvested for several years at it matures.

Is it the most environmentally friendly option?  I dunno, I would need to spent a lot more time looking into it to really find out, and I am sure someday soon Rowen and I will. 

Does it ski better than anything I have used?  Yup, and at the end of the day, that is why we use it.

If it turns out that it is better for the environment, even better.  But in ski building, we can only do so much.

I think it is easier to argue that bamboo is less economical and environmental friendly than people think. Just because it grows fast doesn't make it the perfect choice. And as you said, Boone uses poplar as well which is a hardwood that takes several years to grow. I think companies need to stop trying to play this card because even if you can convince someone that it's better, the benefits are heavily outweighed by the rest of production. If ski companies really want to make a difference in the environment, they need to grab a shovel and a trash bag. Pick up trash, plant some trees, do what you can to reduce waste in production. That being said, these skis look awesome and I love how my bamboo core ON3P Billy Goats ride. Get some video!

this thread has some interesting points about sustainability. im tempted to make a life cycle analysis for these supposed eco-friendly skis to see how they stack up vs. a non-eco friendly ski.

just to poke a few holes... how is the bamboo grown? fertilizers? not very eco-friendly. are they native bamboo species? what natives were displaced so bamboo could be grown? importing is often times has less of a global impact because products can be grown at a smaller footprint somewhere else, then they are mass transported by boat which is extremely efficient.

labeling something eco-friendly is a giant leap that most companies take without considering a products cradle to grave impacts. the product alone doesnt tell the whole story

look for a 175 length in the near future that's closer to 110-112 underfoot, rather than 118.

I saw some skiier at heavenly that had boones that were delaming all over the place and held together by duct tape. That might just be a bad pair, just saying.
