i now feel like putting my cat in a box...

But the theory about that guys cat just doesn't seem that amazing to me. Its not that complicated, today that is simply called "not knowing". I'm open for explanations though, i just don't feel like browsing wikipedia right now

yes it is since i'm from belgium and have never heard of that show....

my math teacher in high school was a doctor in quantum physics and half the time he would tell us about all kinds of stuff like shrodingers cat, time and space relativity, heisenbergs uncertainty principle, astronomy, the big bang, Large hadron colliders, etc...

he even showed brought a cloud chamber to school and showed us how ionizing radiation can cause water to condensate...

such an awesome and inspiring dude....

if they only understand the present, why when i call my dog and someone else calls my dog, he comes to me? or remembers that that is even his name? he must have some grasp of the past to understand/remember who he should go to..

and to the people who say the schrodingers [spelling i dont remember what..] cat thing is just a basic theory of 'not knowing'...it goes beyond that. thats his whole point. its not only that you don't know, but the fact that because you don't know, the cat is both.  you have to open your mind up.

So if time is continually flowing, is it thus impossible to measure, or are we sure there are no intervals to it?  How do we know that it is or isn't continually flowing?  (This is from the top of the thread)

Relativity is distinguishable by changing reference frames, which takes light to observe.  If you know that a certain amount of light has reached an observer, you can calculate that amount of time elapsed using the speed of light and the distance traveled.  This however, would just give you a total elapsed time, which does nothing to measure that time is not continually flowing, you are just taking a snapshot at a particular interval.  But, it is also proven that light is quantized, and that it exists in packets of photons.  If a photon is the root of all light, then time can be measured in specific intervals as determined by photons, and that would be the smallest interval of time, which would not be continuous, since it depends on a quantized occurrence of events.

On the contrary, Skeptics, Aquinas and people like Descartes all used this thinking to validate the world around them. Whether it's tangibly real or not, everything in the universe you can think of is real, though it may only exist as a thought in your head - same as god, your world, your family, etc. The only real debate is whether our world is TANGIBLE or not.

ughhh this reminds of my einstein for everyone course.
we're doing special relativity and all that crap which basically makes you think about a million different things all dealing with light and speed. sagfgkljdfglkjdf no wonder i never took physics.

T think your argument just shows that time cannot be measured with any real accuracy (there is no "absolute" time). This is irrefutable. But it doesn't really tell us why we can't assign convenient intervals to it, and that is what we do. Description champions explanation.

dis you guys know that the SI unit for time, the "second", is based on the nr of periods of EM radiation between two hyperfine levels of the 133Cs-isotope ?
1 second = 9 192 631 770 periods of the EM radiation between two hyperfine levels from the 133Cs isotope ....

no there is, It's a method to describe the fourth dimension. It is hard for us humans who live in a 3 dimensional world to get a good understanding of the fourth dimension, much like a square living on a two dimensional plane would have a hard time grasping the concept of up and down. ya dig?

the term "real" would have to be defined first. i don't think any philosopher could refute the claim that our existence lacks any kind of metaphysical value whatsoever (the cogito makes this quite clear) , but some people do try to claim that the external, physical world is an illusion of the mind. One could claim that the external world is not "real", and all that exists is the mental image or representation of our perceptions.
