hey i was wondering if there is any danger to having your skis on a roof rack without any cover. my dad said the salt can fuck up your bindings? any truth or experiences out there? will a bag around my skis still be compatible with my rack
Yeah I don't really recommend no covering, at the least a plastic bag over your bindings. Most bags, even rolling bags will work with an open rack, but just a soft carry bag from like sportchek or whatever for cheap is all you need. Sometimes depending on the bag it limits how many skis fit in the rack, but most of the time it doesn't make any difference.
i have a two door convertible and i fit 2 pairs, 165 and 170, in my car at all times with my boots, poles, and helmet. you can fit a pair of skis in your car, trust me
a little off topic but i saw a car doing 80 mph on the highway with two snowboards on top. i pulled up next to it and saw that he didnt have a ski rack, all they did was flip the boards upside down and clip the bindings to the roof rack. needless to say i got far away from that guy.
If you clean them VERY well after you're done, fine. Rinse the binding off very thoroughly. I'd be more concerned about the binding than the ski. I used to carry skis on open racks, but it did effect them more than I liked and I'm anal about taking care of my gear. Get a bag, or invest in a box. The box is really nice - thieves can't see what you've got.
