Hellbent or Obsthed

Looking into buying some new skis, and these are the two that I have come down to. Any reviews or opinions? Also if anyone is sellng, they would have to be pretty new and less than $600.

I just bought a pair of 179 Obsethed about a month ago and could not be happier. They have regular camber underfoot and then have tip/tail rocker. I find they can handle the groomers pretty well but really shine in the pow. Their measurements (138-105-125 if I remember correctly) They just rip lines - charging your own path down a crud/mogul run is cake. They are agile enough to tear through the trees. To put it flatly, you will never outperform the ski.

I have never skied the hellbent, but from what I hear they are prety specific. Unless you are sking pow 90% of the time, then they are not worth the money.


If you do decide on the Obsethed, I recommend the Schizos (they already have the plate). Being able to switch between powder and park settings makes the ski even more versatile

it would help if you mentioned where you ski. that could effect the response you get on whether you should/shouldnt get bents.

but anyway, i ski at loon in nh and i see kids with bents pretty regularly. they are a playful ski and can be taken into the park but the ski is pretty much made to be in the pow. So like said ^^ if you dont ski THAT much pow the obsethed would be a great option. its just a bit more all-mountain

Of those two, I would go with the Obsethed.  The Hellbent is a joke in my opinion.  I wasn't too impressed with the versatility of the Obsethed, but for straight lines it was good stuff.  It likes to catch if you are turning quickly which is annoying as hell in the trees.

Yep, we made the HellBent as a joke. We thought is would be pretty funny for people to be able to shred powder like a dream both directions, stomp everything, scare old ladies and children in lift lines and still be able carve your way back to the chair. Pep, Sean, Andy and Charley haven't caught onto the joke yet.

Haha win. I would say that if you are looking for a ski for one-ski quiver usage, than definitely the ObSETHed. They rip everything from groomers, to open bowls, to trees, to smashing through bump runs. Unless all you ever ski is pow, cause if you are that lucky, go with the Bents.

depends on what u ski , if u just want an almountain twin with  rocker get the obsed, but if u want a pure pow get hell bents(super dope skis by the way )

Thanks for the feedback. I want them for skiing mostly pow, obviously at some point they will end up on a groomer but I have some park skis. Also Im 6'5' so looking for only the longest lengths of skis.

next years obsethed will have similar dimensions as this years hellbent. theyll only be slightly skinnier (146 in the tip) whilst the hellbents will be 160 in the tip and 132 underfoot.
so maybe you should wait for next years obsethed, which will be like a middle thing of this years hellbent and obsethed.

A weak attempt...believe it or not Niklas Karlstrom rides his 4FRNT TNKs and says they are amazing.  Weird right?

My opinion as he asked for, and K2 hasn't made a ski yet that I have liked (although if I was using the Obsethed for open lines only I would have to say that one is pretty nice, and I haven't ever gotten to ride the Pontoon!).

Not quite true. Next year's Obsethed is hybrid of this year's Obsethed and Hellbent. This is the ski Seth was actually riding on. He also used an Obsethed (105mm version) with pontoon rocker.

i have 169 obsethed and i kind of regret not getting hellbents. the obsethed works well as more of a charging ski in pow but not for lots of sharp turns. i have ridden hellbents and they are a bit more playful powder and i like how they feel on groomers. the obsethed carves better on groomers, but the hellbent with its massive rocker is just as easy to turn on because the tail washes out so easily. i would get hellbents if i could

from what i heard...the new seth is fatter than this years with reg camber underfoot and hellbent-rocker in the nose.

this seems to fit his style of riding more than the current obsethed (but to be honest, i dont ski with the guy lol)

ANYWAYS.

i have the 179 obsethed and love it. im more of a wide open turning kinda skier anyways, so i didnt have any issues with hooking. ive skied thigh deep on them and had no issues, loved them and had a blast.

i live in the east coast and use it as my everyday ski, with my karmas as my park ski.

also, these things love to ski switch, so keep that in mind if that what u are looking for.

havnt skied the bent, sorry.

Unless you want a really soft ski, you could get One Lifes.  They are actually a little under 110 underfoot(the skinniest part of underfoot I found and measured), with some normal camber, and a big rocker...they are way more versatile than bents or Obsethed IMO, but I don't like soft skis unless I'm in pure untouched pow areas with tons of features or messing around on mellow smooth groomers(and One Lifes are also great in either of those).

They turn as short or long as you want, ski every type of condition better than expected(and I expected a lot) and ski switch easily in pow and on groomers.  Also they're lighter than bents by almost 1.5lbs(189 LL2s were over 2lbs lighter than 179 bents, and One Lifes are about half a pound of betterness more than LL2s).  I mounted mine at -2, and I'd recommend -2.5 even if you're only using it for jibbing(since I have a longer charger, I mounted these where I thought they would be best for jibbing, even though I ski them hard everywhere, and think that -2.5(recommended) would have been a little better). If all I wanted to do is charge forward through everything on them I think that -4.5ish is about as far back as I would go, which is saying something since my other pow skis are at -14.

it depends on what you like to do. if your in powder all the time i would go with the hellbents but if you like to ski all over the mountain the ObSETHed would be best for you. i also know someone with hellebnts and he says hes very happy with them and hasnt had a problem with them.

i skied some obstheds in deep stuff and they were a blast! they also ripped through bump run, and could handle groomers well. would highly recommend them.

I think for a powder ski that you could still take in the park occasionally you should get the obsethed but the Hellbents are just so fun looking to ride on because of their rocker shape and almost every powder segment in Everyday is a Saturday features the Hellbents.. Dane Tudor for Instance...

I would vote Obseth as best all around ski of all time, no question. This coming from someone who has ridden 50+ different ski over the last 3 years, many from private makes of all mountain only skis.

I should add, all the obset needs to be the best ski that could ever be made is:
Slightly narrower, like 100 or 102 and slightly stiffer in the tail. I am yet to see another company match that.
