New editing software

i love to make edits but im sick of my editiing software(corell videostudio 12) because it lags whenever i try to play stuff from my 1080p contour hd camera. Im looking for a decently priced editing software for my bday. wut do u guys think

I think the lag has to do with the speed of the computer. I have Adobe Premeire Elements 8 but a medium computer and it lags with my HD footage
