If there was anything behind those hits on koslov and kariya it would be just because they were the superstars in the NHL at the time and Scott Stevens could have been head hunting them...but i dont know. Scott Stevens is probably the best checker the NHL has ever seen, it takes a lot of skill to line somebody up like that and destroy them. especially with hockey these days, i dont think we will ever see a player in the NHL that will be as good at checking as Scott Stevens just because the game has gotten so much faster, along with a different style of play, and players have become more skilled to be able to avoid bone crushing hits like his.
but back to the original post, it one of my high school hockey tournaments i played in about a year ago, i watching the game before us and this kid totally cheap shotted this one kid trying to catch a pass by taking out his legs. the kid that got hit flew up, his helmet came off mid-air and he landed on the back of his head. he was down for a long ass time and eventually went in to a seizure similar to one like video posted above. he had to get taken out on a strecher and everything. im pretty sure he was alright, he was in shock from what happened but sometimes people can go a little to far with dirty plays in hockey.
well then if his elbow hits lindros' chest then that would mean that their shoulders are roughly at the same height (Stevens' might be a bit lower due to his height and hitting stance) which is what we want to see in a hit. Scott stevens knew exactly when to step up into the play, it was beautiful.
btw i dont think i have seen the angle that you are referring to, but if he actually stuck the point of his elbow into lindros' chest then that would render my post useless.
Rob blake is huge, when i was 12/13 maybe i went to go see wild vs avs game with blake playing, I seen him standing there after the game and everything and i no joke barely went up to chest. I felt little.
Yea i see what you mean, every once in a while you still see a game where the teams put together the speed and the physical side of the game but it doesn't happen to often anymore. BTW i am a post lockout generation so i wasn't old enough to remember the scott stevens era.
and about ovechkin. if you take away his little celebrations, you have to admit he does have a fairly physical/aggresive side to him to go along with his insane hockey skills. (although i think the NHL likes his attitude because it attracts fans)
Stop suggesting that being elbowed in the face and going through involuntary convulsions on the ice has anything to do with someones toughness. It's hockey not fuckin WWE on ice.
