Bindings making a clicking sound

I just got a new pair of the K2 Extremes and I got the Marker Griffon 12 Bindings on them, I noticed yesterday in the park right under the toe of my boot was making a clicking sound when I put pressure on it, is this normal?

i don't think that's normal

get it in a shop and ask them to check the forward pressure
otherwise check whether the toepiece is correctly mounted and see if its completely screwed against the skis topsheet....

also check your skiboots: are they worn out around the tip?

The boot tips are in good shape and are not worn out, also it was only happening on the right ski, also it only happened if there was no snow under the binding part of the ski. I dont know if that may of caused it or not

is it clicking or creaking? cuz i remember some people had issues with certain boots making like a creaking squeaking noise in those binders. something about plastic on plastic or whatever

Its more of a clicking Ben. but I think I might of found what is making the sound. There is a piece of plastic with a little sheet of metal that is right where the boots goes and if you push it one way or the other way and let go it makes a clicking sound I may be sliding it when I put pressure on it I dont know if thats it or not though

Its right under where the toe of your boot goes not sure if thats the afd

Yea Ben it looks just like that but if I push on it side to side it will move and then go back into place as soon as I take my finger off of it

yeah thats your afd, its what allows your toe to twist out in that sort of fall. but that really shouldnt be moving while your skiing.

id probably have a shop look at it. they most likely wont charge you unless they actually have to fix something.

yeah, thats part of what helps your toe twist out in the event of a fall of that nature. but while you are just skiing around, your toe should be locked in.

take em of and return em if you can. markers are a scary binding. i work in a shop and we test a lot of markers that test out fine but when the ppl ski em they turn right out of em on 12. lol. get the looks they are awesome. px12 or 18 or whatever you want your din at but looks are way safer.

yeah we only saw a couple of the jester duke lineup do that. but i saw about 5 people last season crack the heel piece off the ski. they didn't pull it out but they cracked it off lol. it was really wierd but yeah i wanted a pair but have been too scared of ruining em and getting hurt again. i broke my back on some rossis and won't go near em. even tho look is the same binding i just trust em more.

they creak cuz its a mostly plastic binder. mine do it. if you start hearing a popping noise as youre skating then its your heel and toes on ur boot  being too worn and moving inside the toe and heels pieces of your binders

yea

i had the marker free 11.0 on k2 fugitives

it looked nice.... until i had to get it remounted for new pairs of boots

turns out i broke the toe plate in half

i also broke both the brakes on the bindings

i'm not trusting markers anymore

went out and bought myself some looks!! :D

the marker free was a shitty binding. the jester/griffon etc lineup is totally different.

You can't even compare the Royal line or whatever it's called with the old M series.
My M binding had brakes made of wet toilet paper and seemed to require a hideous amount of forward pressure to not fall off my feet at inopportune times.

Now there's 4 of us in my crew that ski on the new Markers, 1 Griffon, 2 Jesters and 1 Griffon Schizo. Haven't had a single problem except the schizo's won't stay in one place.

As for the original question... my Jesters make crackly sounds when I pop hard or tail press... it's REALLY offputting but otherwise doesn't seem to have caused any problems that I know of.

after a season of use, my jesters set at a 12 are testing out at a 8.5 and a 9 (right and left toes, heels are testing at like a 10, 10.5, i forget exactly). it somewhat scares me how soft the system is getting already.

Most likely you have a mechanical problem in the AFD. With Look/Rossi bindings when that happens the spring has disloged, but the afd will still be useable. I would replace the afd, it's a lot cheaper than a blown ACL.

This is actually a known problem with previous year Griffons and Jesters paired up with Dalbellos and Full Tilts.  DIN, which is the standardization of heel and toe lugs and other boot to binding dimensions, allows for a couple different toe heights.  Dalbello Kryptons and Full Tilts used a slightly lower toe height, and on older model Griffons/Jesters the AFD was slightly too low.  Marker is aware of this problem and will actually send you out an AFD that is a couple mm higher to compensate for this.
