Canon XTI or Canon 30D

So i'm really new to photography and i have been looking at these two cameras. Which one do you think would fit someone that's just getting into photography better? Or is there another camera under $800 that would be better? Thanks

lots of info around on this, i'm going to bite just because it is 1 am and i just got out of work/am juiced.

xti is more of a beginner cam. decent screen, slow frame rate, not the best ISO usage... but for the money it's a great starter especially used. the 30d is a much nicer camera, probably a bit more expensive but worth the money, bigger better body, faster frame rate, better af, better ISO quality (i don't think it goes higher than 1600 but i know at the same settings it is less grainy than a rebel... my buddy and i put that shit to the pepsi challenge), same screen, just generally more capable all around. but this is all obvious info... it is a slightly more advanced camera from the same time period.

i'm not sure what your $800 budget entails...? but if it's for both a body and lens then you're in the right ball park, if it's for just a body you should start thinking more along the lines of 40d vs. used rebel T1i (not that you couldn't afford a new one for $800 but any money not spend on a body should be spent on glass).

Thanks for the advice. I really want the t1i but my friend (professional photographer) said the 30d is a nicer camera and would be better in the long run. I found a used in nice condition 30d body for $450. If i got the t1i i would probably get it new with the kit lense and upgrade later or maybe get one used and a nicer lense like you said.

Bump... I just noticed i said XTI. I meant T1I Anyone have any info on this cam vs the 30d?

40D hands down. Such an awesome camera and is way better than a xti, xsi, or Ti1 or whatever. Easy enough to learn on but you can also take it very far and it takes awesome pictures. not to mention I have one for sale hint hint hint.

Bump trying to decide between a Canon T1i, 20D, 30D, 40D or XSI. Trying to find a camera that will be a good camera to learn on but not something i have to replace to get nice looking photos

all those will give you great pictures, go for the xsi, most people love them, and by using it you can figure out what you like and dont like about it and upgrade to a 50d(or watever) when youve outgrown the xsi. thats what im doing anyway, besides the xsi has a good resale value and ill sell it after a year and buy a new body for 200$ (sell xsi for 500, buy new/used better cam for 600-700),
