Full Tilt PAIN!

Got fitted for boots, got booters, they fit my foot perfect foot wise and I love them except for this 1 pain.  Where the liner overlaps because of the wrap around design, it KILLS the side of my leg near my ankle bone.  When I bought them I looked at the liner, said "this looks like it could hurt, does anybody complain of this?" Guy said no, I checked NS and didnt see any complaints and sure enough this is the only thing that hurts. I got n shin bang, no arch pain, everything else is mint but right where that liner overlaps itself, it gives me enough pain to end a good day in the park.  Any help, suggestions, similar feelings?

how many days have you skied them? my full tilts hurt at first but got much better after a few days

7 days on em, everything hurt the first few days then they were good then this started.  Doesnt matter who fit me, I have em and I love em besides this one thing digging in.  Its only left foot too which is weird cause I keep em at equal tightness

i just got mine, and have rode them for two days now. first day right between my shin and muscle that part was hurting me. then after today it doesn't hurt anymore, pretty sure you just have to wear in the liner a little bit so it softens up a little.

Sometimes the overlap can get messed up a little so make sure they are overlapping correct;ly

make sure your tightly and properly overlapping them before you buckle up. as a matter of fact my friend overlapped his the wrong way and said it hurt like a bitch so you may actually just be overlapping the wrong way...idk mabye

They do that, it hurts, it sucks. Relieve with new calves or new boots.

check the sewing of the liner where it hurts. I got mine fitted and realized that it hurt just like you described and then i realized that the sewing was skrewy so i had to wait for new liners. The sewing was folded onto the inside against my shin

Make sure the liner is as tightly wrapped around your leg before you buckle them, then as you're buckling make sure that your tongue is staying straight. It often will move off to the side which will cause the pain you're talking about because when you flex the boot it's not going straight forward, but twisting to the side.

If you have skinny calves like I do I cut about an inch off the overlapping part that was hurting my calf and now it doesn't hurt at all.

You can play with how they overlap over your shin.  Check to see if you have them wrapped around your shin the standard way- which is to have the flap that is on the inside part of your leg wrap closest to your shin (inside flap to inside).  If that is hurting you, wrap it over the "outside" flap (inside flap over outside flap) and try that.  There's rarely any "always do this" when it comes to boot-fitting, that's the whole point to anomalies.  Andy Parry had this same problem and this is what we did to fix it on one of his earlier FTs.

i mean i've never tried an intuition liner, but i have always thought that the "wrapping" liner looks like it would be uneven and paintful

Same thing happened to me with my new full tilts, I just skied on em in lots of pain for a couple days and it went away

well obviously, or else no one would be using them...

but like, think about it. at that point of overlap, one side will be higher than the other, and at the point of overlap, there would be a gap, and uneven pressure on your shin

but it works...

i had some high pressure pain in my ankles and i got some superfeet and taped and played with some foam inserts on the outside of my liner for a while and got them placed just right. Skied without ankle pain the first time in 3 weeks today. You might have a different problem. i wouldnt know cause they are not on my feet.

mine have been doing the same.. there are 2 major spots in my left foot that hurt, and 3 in my right foot/ankle.. i was definitely in a lot of pain and my toes were numb by the end of the day. i hope they get better.. People up ^there^ said it might have something to do with how you wrap the liners.. for me, it definitely has NOTHING to do with how they are wrapped. best of luck. ha let me know if yours get better cause i have only been on mine 2 days so far!- im a tad worried..

I'm sorry, but is this really that difficult? Go back to the bootfitter and discuss the problems with your bootfit. Sounds pretty simple to me.

If by your ankle bone you mean those two bumps on the inside and outside of your foot then I had the same problem. Turns out it was a seam from one of my ski socks. All I had to do was adjust the sock and I was good to go.

on my left foot on the ankle, there is something that pokes my ankle, i don't know if this is the same thing as the OP is experiencing but whenever i investigate, i can't seem to find the source of the poking sensation. any help would be much appreciated.

ive seen so many threads on this,sometimes its just about taking the time to break them in as much as possible.Like walking around the house or even when your sitting on NS just keep them on,especially if their newly fitted.

I know this thread is really old but all you have to do is use an iron to flatten out that part of the liner that overlaps.

I've seen "boot fitters" completely botch a heat mold on intuition wraps. It should sit perfectly flush with no bacon folds or weird creases. If it looks uniform I would try molding with the outside flap under the inside flap and see if the seam hits you in a better place. Other option would be to replace the wrap with a traditional tongue liner.

Yes definitely check the overlap and make sure you're skiing in a thin sock that isn't bunching. If the overlap is really bugging you, you could swap the liners out for a tongue style Intuition Liner instead. These liners can also be re-molded many times so you may want to give that a shot as well, just don't overheat.

My 2 cents...

I owned a pair of booters and now a pair of older drop kicks (which are far superior to the booters IMO). Got my booters fitted / heat molded / all that stuff and felt good about them.

The first 3-4 times I went skiing with the booters it was VERY painful in the ankle area and then all of a sudden they because extremely comfortable. By far the most comfortable boot I had worn after that. Like others said if you still haven't fully broken them in give it time. Also make sure your liner isn't positioned incorrectly.

When I got the drop kicks I just threw in my old liner and they were great right off the bat. Drop kicks are a bit more narrow and now after a few seasons the sides of my feet hurt for like 1-2 runs and then they feel great the whole day.

For those looking to buy a pair of full tilts for the first time I would recommend the drop kicks over the booter all day. Booter is much more flimsy and breakable.
