Yes, Colorado State is 20 minutes away from Loveland, plus another hour and a half. Anywhere front range is going to be close to 2 hours away from skiing, even CU isn't close.
It takes about 2 hours to get to Keystone from Ft Collins. You can go to CSU and still ski a decent bit, you just have to work harder for it.. I take 16 credits and still manage to shred at least 3-4 days a week, which really isn't too bad. As long as you have places in Summit County to crash on the weekends you're golden. However, if you're looking for an affordable school with a bigger ski scene, look at University of Utah.
Loveland the town and Loveland Basin Ski Area are two different places
