Canon XSi Questions

I'm in the process of getting a mint condition Canon XSi with a 18-55 stock lens, two batteries, and a battery grip for about 550. It's a really good deal. But i'm wondering if this is the right camera for me. I already have an external flash for a canon and i've been using Canons all my life without an issue so thats what i'm sticking with. My question is is this the right camera for me. I'm pretty much a beginner in photography other than basic point and shoot stuff. I'm looking for a camera that will let me progress a lot. Something thats really easy to learn with, thats reliable, and that will allow me to experiment with different types of photography. I'd really like to hear from people who have the camera. ++k for helpful responses. thanks ns.

I just got this camera, and I love it. I'm at the same point as you, and it's great and has everything you would need to get better. The T1i is a step above, but I think the only things nicer about it is that it has more megapixels and films in HD video. But yeah, I love it, I'd say go for it.

I have been shooting with an XSi for over a year now. It is a really good beginner DSLR. It has tons of manual options and really lets you learn to shoot from the ground up. So yes it is the right camera for you, and the first thing you should do is learn how to use its manual settings.

thats good to hear about it. I deffinately don't want the Ti. Megapixels are overrated once you get above 8 or 9. Also, i have a camcorder already so its not worth the extra money when i found an amazing deal on a xsi.

i have had mine for a year. im really suprised with it.
it killz. im not gonna upgrade my body for a while. the buttons are layed out nicely and shit. live view is the tits too.
get the xsi and use the money you save on a wider or longer lense.
all the pics in my flickr are taken wif it. check itttttt

when it shows you what you're going to take a picture of on the screen, instead of looking through the little eyepeice or whatever its called. I have the XSI and its a pretty sick camera, i got it about a year ago and wanted the same things as you do, in my opinion it delivers. its not too hard to figure out the manual settings and it will probably do everything you want to do.

i'm 100 getting this camera. I went to a really good camera store in ottawa and they said that its a great camera for my needs. the deal im getting only comes with a 18-55mm IS lens. I'm getting a flash and some sort of 50mm lens from a relative. will that be good for now? or should i go and get another lens?

Why are people hyping live-view? It's the most useless feature on the camera, I tried to use it once, fucking hated it and turned it off within 5 minutes.

I have the T1I which is very similar so I can vouch for this camera.
I'm a beginner and I can only say that this was the best camera to buy for a beginner.
It lets you advance easily but isnt too complicated to use from the start.
I started with the stock lens and some kind of 50mm,
I think that they are both good lenses, but maybe hold off on the 50mm cause you already have 18-55.
Just my opinion I thought I would have enjoyed having a zoom lens right from the start (like 70-300) because of the oppurtunities.
But,
The 50mm does let you get creative.
Hmmmm,

lol yeah its good if you want to use your camera like a point and shoot, but if you want to do anything technical you're way better off not using live view. it'd be handy if you wanted to get some random person to take a picture of you though, keeps their eye juices out of your shit.
