Unbelievable Haiti earthquake pics & an easy way to give help

Possibly 100,000 dead. As if Haiti wasn't already in terrible condition, a 7.0 quake just fucked so much shit up... The destruction is horrific.

Hopefully Haiti can recover from this terrible natural disaster. They said on CNN that the whole country, literally the whole country is in ruins.

One bright light in this mess is that Haiti is a (relatively) small island country. This means supporting nations can park a couple of these bad boys right off the coast.

Sad situation, though. Hopefully the nation of Haiti can use this tragedy to rebound and build better infrastructure, such as better sewage and water systems.

this is devastating.  My family had two exchange students from Haiti who live right next to wear the earthquake hit worst.  We can't get in contact with them at the moment and I don't think we will anytime soon.  I have them on facebook but I don't think internet will be accessible for a WHILE and they have to go to this one place to access internet anyway.  I am crossing my fingers.

hate to say it, but there is a reason why this shit always happens to poor countries... us bigger countries get our pick of the land, and leave these small countries to the natural disaster prone areas. Survival of the fittest i guess

im not saying this happens to them because they are poor, im saying that basically the land that they get is disaster prone because they get "last pick" of land and the rich countries (or people) get first pick.

yea it def has to do with the fact that the US can build buildings that wont collapse...

all buildings in haiti are probably veerrryyy poorly constructed and would probably collapse with small winds

i have a few friends from there at school. i talked to one of them about it and he said his entire block was destroyed and his family doesnt have anything really. send lots of good vibes! they all really need it...

New Orleans is in the US and there are tons of things that happen here....the Haitian earthquake was such a big killer because the people are grouped too close together....it's person on top of person so when something hits an area it kills wayy more people instead of being more spread out like it is in other areas

i feel bad for all the people in Haiti, it is terrible
and as i was trying to say, I HATE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN because it always ends up happening to poor and less fortunate people.

and the reasoning behind it is what i said before.

so you can all stop your bitching and whining and calling me "the dumbest, most ignorant idiot", you obviously did not understand what i was saying. Shit like this happens to less fortunate people for the most part, and this is the reason behind it.

some terrible logic you have my friend.

the real reason why this is so devastating is not due to who gets to pick what land. If we're talking about earthquakes obviously looking at LA, SF and Tokyo puts that ridiculous theory to rest. Also, Haitians have completely logged their entire half of the island and now erosion is a huge problem. The farmland is now pretty much useless and the lack of vegetation also contributes to the severe flooding they seem to have every year (killed 800 people earlier this year). Interestingly, the Dominican Republic is not in nearly as bad shape.

The truth is that wealthy westernized countries have much higher building standards than say Port-au-Prince where people live in concrete houses and simple shanties. These buildings can withstand severe earthquakes much better and prevent loss of life in cities, like Tokyo, that are much more dense and populated than Port-au-Prince.

but that is exactly it.  LA and SF happen to be on a fault, but there is no way we would just give up that valuable land because of that. same with tokyo. and we, as a wealthy country, have been able to overcome these problem.
haiti, a poor country, has houses made of god knows what. they ended up on that land and they cannot afford to overcome these threats of natural disaster. they also cannot afford the technologies that we have for farming and what ever else.

the DR was farther away from Haiti and didnt feel more than a shake. the DR is also wealthier than Haiti. coincidence?

my thoughts arent even a theory, just observations... no need to hate
