You can still do some hands on stuff as an officer, at least in the maintenance community, but, meetings and paperwork will very shortly become your life. If you stay enlisted, you have 8-12 years before that starts to become a big portion of your job. No matter which way route you go, or for how long, thanks for signing up to serve our country.
