I have decided to join the military when i come of age. Army National Guard exactly. Just wondering if anyone had any tips or other stuff when i go to see a recruiter and such stuff i have done extensive research and shit and i know that it is right for me. Is anyone else in the Guard and can tell me what its like
Don't believe everything the recruiter says. They will say whatever they can just to get you to join so don't believe every single thing they tell you.
I'm planning on attending college at the same time and having the guard pay for it which is one of the reasons I'm joining. I have talked to a lot of ex and present military personnel and i have learned a lot of stuff. my only hesitation about becoming an officer is that i don't want to do paper work i want to do something hands on.
You work your ass off and get reasonable grades and do well on the exams you will get after school to become an officer and you could become an infantry officer. One thing though about being an infantry officer is you should probably learn to shoot a rifle really well. If you get through OCS well you will end up being a Lieutenant probably as a platoon commander or something.
yeah attending college while being enlisted sounds awesome, too bad it wont work out. We are in a war if you havent noticed. Every body I know that has enlisted has not had a chance to get into school yet. Just go ROTC
true the pay is better but I will also have a civilian job where i will get most of my income i would like to be a business man of some sort. I'm not joining the guard for the money it more for the experience and to serve my country a lot of the reasons i want to join are unexplainable. Like 9/11 the attack didn't directly affect me and my family from like a death perspective but i made me furious and its really the only way i can do something about that. Not saying i want to go out and massacre a bunch of turban wearing Muslims, but i really want to do my part to make sure a thing like 9/11 will never happen again.
its not for everyone though. some people WANT to be in the action. he seems like one of those people. but ya i agree with whoever mentioned going for infantry officer
I dont think you understand, there are more members of the guard overseas then there are active duty members. The chances of you being in the guard, with another job, and going to school all at the same time is very slim.
.props to u man ... i was going to go to the coast guard academy and protect the coast but i recently found out i was colorblind so i can no longer join =( . there is also alot of other things i can't do with color blindness it really sucks
If you are in the Army infantry, you will be on the ground. Officer or not, your going to shoot a rifle as an infantryman. There are tons of hands on jobs for officers in all services.
i found out that with the guard that through my college 4 years the possibility of getting deployed is likely but only once because Guard stations (not sure what to call them) go on a deployment rotation pending on how many units in the state your in will decide how many times you get deployed. I'm not looking for a infantry job rather a field artillery like where you launch rocket things out of cannons. also once i finish college i can be commissioned an officer because i finished college.
be careful man. my friend joined the army reserve, and was certain that they were going to let him do reserves and go to college, and that he wouldn't be getting shipped out until after college. he leaves for afghanistan in march. recruiters will tell you anything to get you to sign that contract. make sure that you read every thing, and get some straight answers.
i'm going to do ROTC for the marines in college next year, not sure if you've looked into that much. you can get college paid for, and then do 4 years of service. as for the whole wanting a hands on thing, officers still get to see plenty of action. as a combat lieutenant, you would lead a platoon of soldiers into action. that's about as hands on as it gets.
Because the military is just so much easier than actually trying at life.
Jarheads don't get all butthurt. It's just plain ignorant to not acknowledge the sheer volume of people who join the armed forces simply because they suck.
it's also just plain ignorant to generalize and say that our ranks are nothing buck fuck ups.
almost all of our presidents have served, as have plenty of other highly intelligent and successful people have.
not true, my recruiter didnt do that, the especially wont do that if you walk in and join because they dont have any incentive to because you are already committed. I did the same thing and I'[m going to OCS after I graduate
